Lucky kids. My @smh cartoon.
Four frames. Intro: “The Government’s new gambling add rules mean kiddies will only be free to see 3 ads per waking hour. So make them count!” Frame 1. Kid eating snack bar in front of TV saying “Cost of Living (TM) blah blah blah, but YOU COULD BE THE LUCKY WINNER…” 2. Kid with teddy and TV says, “Dad lost his job? You’re going to live with grandma? No better time to TRY YOUR LUCK!” 3. Kid with drink and TV says, “Australians are the world’s BIGGEST LOSERS and YOU COULD BE TOO!” 4. “And after they go to bed, we’ve got them covered…” kid in bed with phone saying, “Don’t forget to add your pocket money to Australia’s $32 billion GAMBLING BONANZA!”

Handy guide for reporters … A claim is made about the impact of tax policy. Test: is it true (you find out). If yes: you have a story. If no: it isn’t a story. Reporting government denial of something that isn’t real … that’s also not a story.

Bit worrying that a state premier does not understand how income tax works.
Mr Minns said the current top marginal tax rate of 47 per cent – including the two per cent Medicare Levy – meant Australians were working half the week for the government.

“You’re working Monday, Tuesday and half of Wednesday for yourself, then Wednesday Thursday and Friday for the government,” Mr Minns said.

The top marginal tax rate applies to those earning incomes over $190,001 across Australia’s states and territories.

‘But you said we’d stop for an ice cream.’ The press gallery’s infantile squawking about ‘broken promises’ ignores that the silly ‘rule in-rule out’ games in election campaigns are for the media’s own benefit. The rest of us in the real world simply don’t care. It’s good policy we care about.

Excellent statement from Zali Steggall. The PM needs to realize that caving in to the Israel lobby is the last thing that will deliver 'social cohesion' for Australia. If he is looking for national unity, and greater safety for Jews, inviting a genocide enthusiast will not deliver. #auspol
