What on earth is happening?

This had become the new normal. RNLI crew members had been forced to take their permits off their cars after their tyres have been repeatedly slashed. Most of them have been pilloried at the school gates or turned away from local pubs. One man who worked in search and rescue had been beaten unconscious and hospitalised, recognised for TV interviews he had done.

Totally agree, activating e.g. the air-con on a new car requires way more switching of concentration than good old analogue controls, & then the "advanced driver-assistance system" kicks in and tells me off!

I think on quite a basic level "you must not use a touchscreen device while operating your vehicle" was ruined as an instruction once "operating your vehicle" required using a touchscreen.
