Using data from NASA’s Chandra and XMM-Newton, astronomers have discovered a possible supernova remnant buried 26,000 light-years away. If confirmed, it would be one of the closest remnants ever found to the supermassive black hole at the center of our Milky Way! 🌌 1/4
Astronomers may have uncovered a new supernova remnant in a star-forming region near the center of the Milky Way galaxy using data from Chandra and XMM-Newton. If confirmed, this would be one of the closest supernova remnants to the supermassive black hole in the Galactic Center. This image shows the region where the evidence was found, which contains X-rays from Chandra and XMM-Newton, radio data from the MeerKAT telescope in South Africa, and an optical image from the Pan-STARRS telescopes in Hawaii.

Blue Majesty This blue jay (Cyanocitta cristata) appears to be thoroughly in charge of the realm. Oh what is the word I'm looking for to describe this look ... noble, that is it. My dog, Charlie who is a border collie, gets that look whenever he lays quietly with his head raised.
"A blue jay perches on a thin, upright branch, holding itself with that mix of confidence and alertness the species is known for. Its crest is raised just enough to give it a proud silhouette. The bird’s plumage is a striking blend of deep cobalt, soft sky‑blue, and crisp black barring along the wings and tail. Its face is framed by a bold black line that curves around the throat like a natural mask.

The underside is pale gray‑white, smooth and soft‑looking, creating a gentle contrast to the vivid blues above. The jay’s dark eye is bright and focused, giving the sense that it’s watching the world from its elevated perch, ready to call out or take flight at any moment.

Behind the bird, the background melts into a soft blur of greens — a wash of foliage and filtered light that makes the blue jay stand out even more sharply. The whole scene feels calm, crisp, and intimate, as if you’ve caught the bird in a quiet pause between its usual bursts of energy." - Microsoft Copilot

Spring Awakening This close‑up shows new tree leaves emerging from their buds, glowing in shades of amber and rose. They appear to be sweetgum leaves, and one has already opened into the beginnings of a five‑pointed star.
"A single branch reaches into a pale spring sky, and at its tip a cluster of brand‑new sweetgum leaves is just beginning to unfurl. The leaves are small and tender, still wearing the colors of early emergence — soft greens mixed with warm reddish tones, like the last blush of winter giving way to the season. Their edges are slightly curled, not yet stretched into the full star shape sweetgum leaves will become.

The bark beneath them is textured and mottled, a steady gray‑brown that makes the delicate new growth stand out even more. Light filters across the scene in a gentle wash, giving the young leaves a translucent glow, as if they’re lit from within. The background is uncluttered and bright, letting the viewer focus entirely on this quiet moment of renewal — the tree waking up, leaf by leaf, against the open sky." - Microsoft Copilot
