Statement on Supreme Court Transgender Ban in High School Sports

Sports have always been a place where young people learn resilience and find community. No child should be told that who they are disqualifies them from that experience. Despite today’s Supreme Court ruling, Minnesota Aurora will continue to support transgender youth and the schools and coaches who want every kid to thrive.
Every young person deserves a fair shot to play, belong, and grow through sports.

Conservatives have been forcing YA books on race, LGBTQ+ and assault into library's adult sections. But they're for kids, so adults don't check them out. When they don't circulate, they get removed. New books like them don't get ordered. Lack of orders makes publishers think there's no market.

By the way: the landlords are now openly admitting this. They have long used eviction case records as leverage to collect alleged sums owed from tenants post-eviction, whether it be rent or something else. This is a big part of what's driving the numerous constitutional challenges to expungement
We now consider whether MSP Apartments has standing to challenge section
484.014, subdivision 3(a)(5), the provision upon which the district court relied in granting
N.P.’s request for expungement. The attorney general argues that MSP Apartments lacks
standing to challenge subdivision 3(a)(5) because it has not suffered an injury-in-fact as a
4
result of the district court’s expungement of the eviction case.2 MSP Apartments asserts
that it suffered an injury-in-fact because (1) it was a plaintiff in the underlying action,
(2) the eviction expungement cancelled the reconveyance of N.P.’s interest in the property
back to MSP Apartments, and (3) the eviction expungement deprived MSP Apartments of
“leverage over [t]enants to be compensated for the damage caused to the building.”

90% of evictions in MN are for nonpayment of rent. I did a sample a week ago and found the avg nonpayment eviction in Hennepin County would take $5,122 to stop. Studies (before the high inflation of the past few years) suggest stopping an eviction saves $6,832 in public costs. It just makes sense
See The Cost of Displacement, Inclusive Action for the City (July 31, 2020), https://www.inclusiveaction.org/blog/cost-of-displacement [https://perma.cc/8DL2-HWKY] (finding that evictions cost families between $7,000 to $11,000).
