Tony Blair used to talk about the difference between the 3-second, 30-second & 3-minute conversation - the point being that simplistic policies, that poll well, collapse under the more sustained scrutiny of an election or time in govt. So what happens when there is *only* the 3-second conversation?

Just recorded a pod on solar+storage and holy shit y'all, if you are not tracking this market on a daily basis, you have no idea how wild it is. The global average price of a battery pack fell 40% *from 2023 to 2024*. That dropped the LCOE of a solar+storage plant by 22%. In a year!

I decided to create a possible UK zoning system, because yes, I was incredibly bored This is HEAVILY inspired by the Japanese zoning system, albeit with some major changes.
A table titled "Land Use Summary" displays different land use codes, descriptions, and their compatibility with various land classifications. The table has the following columns: Use Code, Land Use Summary, with the following zones: Ind. (Industrial), Low Rural, Med Rural, High Rural, Low Urban, Med Urban, and High Urban. The table uses color coding: Green cells indicate permitted uses. Yellow cells with letters indicate conditional uses, A is for uses under 150m2, B is under 500m2, and C is under 1500m2. Blank cells indicate non-permitted or not applicable uses.Continuation of the previous table, with zoning restrictions, such as floor to area ratio plot plot occupancy ratios, shown below.

I'm reminded of Yahtzee Croshaw's octopus burger analogy. Dem coastal elites are like octopus burger stand vendors trying to sell a product but it fails because it is offputting, so they try something different, it succeeds and then internally go "ok how can we work the octopus back into this"

In a different pact to, all that's been happening I decided to create a "What if" where the Iberian Peninsula (and some other associated territories with it) was one country, what would the most recent election look like? The answer is, VERY narrow The "Right Bloc" would have 201/400 seats!
Map showing the election results of the described hypothetical.

In the centre, is the Iberian peninsula, with the provinces (used as constituencies in this election) coloured based on the voteshare of the largest party within each province.
In the bottom right is the party key.
In the bottom left is the Island constituencies, which are the Azores (top left of the group of 3), Madeira (top right) and the Canary Islands (bottom).
In the top left is an inset with the results from Madrid, as it would not fit on the peninsula map.Diagram showing the Assembly results of the election.
The Government, made up of 192 members, would be split as such.
People's Democratic Party, 167 seats.
Vox, 25 seats.
The government would be externally supported by two parties.
The party is over, on 5 seats.
National Rally, on 4 seats.
There are 199 members of the opposition, which are.
The Iberian Socialist Worker's Party, on 156 seats.
Together for Catalonia, on 11 seats.
Republican Left of Catalonia, on 8 seats.
Sumar, on 7 seats.
Basque Country Gather, on 5 seats.
Liberal Initiative and the Basque National Party, both on 3 seats each.
People's Left and the Galician Nationalist Bloc, both on 2 seats each.
Canarian Coalition and Together for France, both on 1 seat each.

The reason a lot of foreign policy/soft power/global hegemony stuff on the west has become such a hard sell for voters is that nobody normal wants it. Politicians and economists sure, but 99% of voters don't wake up and think "man, I wish we had more international connections"
