Mel for @armoralor.bsky.social ! She brought up an outfit (ref in thread) that would totally suit Mel and I was so inspired by it, I paused every single ongoing illustration to draw it because I *had* to. This was very fun to work on, I love Mel and it feels nice to have a proper drawing of her <3

Half-body ortrait of Mel Medarda from Arcane dressed in a haute-couture outfit (reference in the thread). Its most defining feature is a pair of golden arm shaped shoulder pads that gently carry a veil all around Mel's upper body. The veil is golden and shimmery, and through its sheer fabric we can see Mel standing in a relaxed pose, expression soft and head slightly tilted to the left of the picture. She is contrasted by an abstract navy blue background that emphasises the brightness of her golden attire.

The Met Gala is happening tonight, which means it’s time for everyone to look at Keyx’s beautiful art once again and think about Mel Medarda attending the event 🙂‍↕️💝💐

A couple drawings from my sketchbook! I love Jayce Talis #JayceTalis

Traditional pencil sketch of Jayce squatting down while holding his knees together. He is wearing a crop top, shorts, knee socks and sneakers. He is looking up at the viewer cutely.

Jayce as a child posing with a magic wand held straight up above his head. He is wearing a starry wizard hat with matching cape over top a sweater vest, shorts, knee socks, and school shoes. He is so proud of his magic.

I dreamt of the beach (1/4)

Page one: text on black background, “WAKE UP!”. Eyes open, a baby sea turtle with an eggshell helmet says, “you need to wake up!”

Page 2: helmet turtle says to a green baby sea turtle, who is waking up out off his egg, “we need to get moving.” CRASH! A cormorant breaks through the ceiling of their nest hole. Helmet turtle says MOVE!

Page 3: “when you’re out there, beeline to the water. Don’t stop. Don’t be a hero. Godspeed.” The helmet turtle kicks baby green turtle out the hole off a cliff onto the beach below.

Page 4: baby green turtle lands on the sand. The distance between him and the water is quite large. Another baby sea turtle is being devoured by a seagull and is screaming for help.

House of Mel ✨ @projectmedarda.bsky.social · 17/03/2026

Mel's arc is about how she struggles with vulnerability because of her mother's rejection. It results in a need to overly prove herself as a Medarda and to be in control / ahead of Noxus invading by fighting power with power which is obviously flawed. That’s the point.

Text:
Bad faith 'analysis' on Mel usually point out how she calls herself the 'poorest Medarda' which means all she cares about is money. However, if you actually pay attention to Mel's character in S1 from beginning to end and reflect on her as the writers intended for you to do, then it's obvious this is not true.

The writers have been on record saying that they wanted viewers to see Mel one way and then realize she's not who they thought she was.

That maybe, they were wrong about her.

So under that context, Mel isn't taking about material wealth in that scene - she's talking metaphorically. Despite what she has accomplished in Piltover, it is all meaningless. She does not have what will 'impress' Ambessa and thus isn't of value to her.

Once you have finished S1, the audience realizes that everything Mel does is for Ambessa's approval. To get under her good graces again. To be a daughter loved and accepted by her mother instead of rejected.

Even though her mother traumatized her so thoroughly that she immortalizes it into a painting and hangs it over her BED.

It’s through Jayce that Mel learns to start thinking of herself not as a ‘Mel Medarda’ but just ‘Mel’ which is a source of conflict for her (again, this is specifically stated by Amanda Overton, one of the lead writers on the show). Through that relationship, she learns to be more vulnerable and think about what she wants beyond proving that she is worthy to her mother.

Text continued:
However, the wall that was starting to come down partially because of Jayce quickly comes back up when Ambessa visits Piltover. She doesn't confide in anyone like she should about why she wants the Hextech weapons built - and no, it’s not because of Zaun. That’s honesty very clear if you actually watch her scenes with Ambessa and pay attention. Mel knows that if she doesn’t get Jayce and Viktor to build weapons for Noxus like her mother is asking then Ambessa will get them to do it herself.

And as we saw in S2, Ambessa would’ve definitely done that if Mel had outright said no.

Again, one of Mel’s biggest character flaws IS her being closed off. It’s hard for her to be vulnerable so she doesn’t communicate her fears of everything falling apart because of Ambessa/Noxus invading. Ambessa’s not going to accept no for an answer. Mel knows that so she falls into the trap of leaning into what she was raised on: countering a threat with even more power.

Mel had been building power to prove herself to her mother before deciding she would need to use that same power to fight her. That same power was one that she originally hoped to use for good, (think about her line about how the Medardas usually only ‘take’ from the world).

Yet in trying to use this power, Mel eventually realizes that she would become someone she doesn’t want to be.

That’s the whole point of her finally taking off the Medarda ring.

She’s rejecting the principles of being a Medarda - of becoming like her Mother.
