The process was structured, low key, and humane. I was recently contacted by a former colleague (retired), asking WTF about the leaked memo regarding entering dwellings without a judicial warrant. This colleague was INS throughout his career. For him to reach out and express shock speaks volumes.

Up and down the chain of command. And people need to be charged criminally for their part. The ICE in action today is entirely unlike the ICE of past years and it reflects poorly on the people that worked hard to do the job without harassing, kidnapping, and generally violating rights.

There was a time when the chaos and aggression I’ve seen would have resulted in serious reprimands; not just internally, but also from the U.S. Attorney’s Office. This is an utter mess and I can only hope that things change fast before it gets worse. There needs to be serious accountability.

I could go into greater detail about their mistakes and aggressive behavior, but so many people have already done a great job reading the room. Masks, little or no markings on their gear, hostility towards citizens are just a few examples. Never mind the multitude of civil rights violations.

I call bullshit on the claim they are going after the worst offenders and that the enforcement is ‘targeted’. This is not how the job was done, by policy and statute, it’s not how it’s supposed to be done. These cosplayers are untrained, unethical, and a danger to the community.

For 20 years I was in a component of ICE that did not directly conduct immigration enforcement. We conducted actual criminal investigations. At times, we were called up to ‘support’ ERO in their work and as a result, I learned the process and the limitations of immigration enforcement.
