Garrett Dimon @garrettdimon.com · 07/01/2025My software development philosophy: 1. Minimize external dependencies. 2. Actively upgrade dependencies. Garrett Dimon @garrettdimon.com · 07/01/2025Really good shoehorns are underrated, but they need to be hefty metal ones that don't bend and are at least a foot long. Having several and keeping them stashed throughout the house is one of those small changes that makes a big difference. 010
Garrett Dimon @garrettdimon.com · 07/01/2025To be fair, that wasn't just from Rails. It was also from going through all of the assets and streamlining the build pipeline to only what was needed. 100
Garrett Dimon @garrettdimon.com · 31/12/2024And, while I'm still becoming familiar, it presumably falls back to diffs of the encrypted files in contexts without access to the keys. Garrett Dimon @garrettdimon.com · 31/12/2024TIL: `rails credentials:diff --enroll` (and `--disenroll`) Makes local diffs of encrypted credentials files display as diffs of the un-encrypted text instead of diffs of the encrypted gibberish. Helps reduce friction of seeing what changed in credentials when merging or navigating merge conflicts. 190

Garrett Dimon @garrettdimon.com · 22/12/2024I hear you. I definitely like that cleaner syntax that is more Phlex-like, but, in practice, I’ve found that I prefer ERb at that point. I do really like the idea of Phlex being less forgiving than HTML (i.e. closing tags), but not enough to add the extra indirection in most cases. 100
Garrett Dimon @garrettdimon.com · 21/12/2024I don't see any major issues with it, but it's not something I could see myself using much. By the time the tags/markup would be complicated enough, I'd personally prefer to just switch to HTML. In a way, the current state helps clarify whether to use Ruby or ERb for a partial. 110
