What does 'the UK's second city' mean?

I'm not sure that centralisation is the cause of this though. This is populism, and I reckon that politicians who want to say this kind of thing will do so whoever actually has responsbility for bus stop design. (After all, central government doesn't design bus stops now!)

This is very contingent on polling, surely, and seems less inevitable than the Salmond case? Voters then *knew* that the SNP would be strong in Scotland, and a hung parliament seemed very likely. In 2028 it seems pretty plausible to me that the Greens won't appear major players.

Ridiculous behaviour from the Tories. Dealing with unfriendly journalists is a basic requirement for a political party!

I cannot think of one good reason they could have for doing this. Nor even a bad one. They should fix it.

Hard agree. I knew it would be my reaction before I even read it, but my main response was - never go to Ganesh for the economics. His editor should just keep reminding him to steer clear of that.

I share Ganesh's irritation with "Good Growth" but I find the rest of this rather facile, honestly. If your solution to the UK's sluggish growth is "Cut pensions, spend it on tax cuts" I do need you to articulate to me why we're not living through Jeremy Hunt's utopia. www.ft.com/content/3b92...

You know, children, there was a time, not so long ago, when serious journalists - even right wing propagandists cosplaying objectivity - would applaud an experienced, even-tempered Foreign Secretary, like Hague or Hammond, being a bit dry, rather than jumping on stuff as if they were Perez Hilton.

Deeply concerned about the incident that occurred on the Flydubai flight to Israel and very relieved that the plane landed safely thanks to the actions of those on board.
All of my thoughts are with those injured in the attack and all those...

tbf he did include the word 'increasing' in his assertion. So assuming he's talking about rate of change, you need a time series of opinion polls to see if he's right.

My local pub runs out of all kinds of core pub drinks on a regular basis. I think it’s because they exist pretty hand-to-mouth in terms of stocks. I still love it though.

I spend my week crossing london on a bike and increasingly that means cycling alongside Wayve/Waymo robotaxis. it’s uncomfortable. they give you so much space, don’t do a close pass while accelerating as lights go red. So unnerving if you cycle on assumption everyone’s mental and wants to kill you.

I don’t know. You can over complicate these things. Much easier to just ask ‘is there a negative output gap?’ If the answer is no, you probably don’t want more expansionary fiscal policy.
