Using Backloggd, made a physical ranking of every GBA game I've reviewed for the Game Boy Abyss - might be a little inaccurate here and there depending on my mood, but this is largely my view on the far too many games I've reviewed so far. backloggd.com/u/GameBoyAby...

Three panel comic. Panel 1: on the set of the Jerry Springer show, a man sits in a chair. Jerry signals off-stage and says, “we have with us: your ancestor who crawled out of the ocean 375 million years ago!” Panel 2: the live studio audience is booing. Panel 3: security attempts to break up a fight between the man on stage, and his ancestor, a tiktaalik.

Back to work tomorrow... for once, I felt I actually used my time on holidays well - relaxed, but also got a pretty decent amount of writing done. Like a couple 10k words decent. Love writing fan fic and even if I don't love Fortune's Weave I love writing about the characters

Fire Emblem is one of my favourite franchises but I'm just not feeling this new-normal it's going through - Three Houses and Fortune's Weave just have so much downtime and so much less-Fire Emblem core to it that it's just not clicking for me. Fire Emblem Engage supremacy

That's just more running around a map getting materials I don't need for no real reason. I'll 100% beat Theodora's route but we'll see how I feel after that because I'm just not feeling the motivation to go beyond.

Mitch @ The Game Boy Abyss @gameboyabyss.bsky.social · 04/10/2026

I love the characters, and most of the story chapters are actually pretty fun, but I just find the game so un-engaging more than half the time I don't know if I can stomach doing another route knowing I have to do all this free time shit again - and I know quests get auto-finished but-

Mitch @ The Game Boy Abyss @gameboyabyss.bsky.social · 04/10/2026

It very much feels like a JPRG with Fire Emblem's skin put on top of it, I'm so sick of how long the free time segments are, how fuckin' easy the game is (at least act 1) and I hate how little characterisation I'm getting out of pretty much all the recruits i'm getting

It's crazy how big nuzlockes are now, remembering that it came from an extremely rough 4chan comic where the protagonist had a nuzleaf who looked like locke from lost, hence nuzlocke

All Out was another fantastic show for AEW, but it's just been so overcast following Pac's death that it's hard to really think about the show. Glad his last match was a good one.

And I think saying this film has no soul is the great inditement I can give it. Hosoda's movies always put their heart and soul first - even if I didn't like Mirai, there was a heart to that film I could grasp. Scarlet doesn't have that; it has flair and nothing else, and that guts me.

000

Mitch @ The Game Boy Abyss @gameboyabyss.bsky.social · 26/09/2026

I love you Hosoda. I love your movies, Summer Wars and Wolf Children are masterpieces, but Scarlet just feels like a mess of ideas and concepts all wrapped in the idea of forgivness that just doesn't work out in any interesting way. It's got a bit of visual sauce but it just has no soul whatsoever

100

Mitch @ The Game Boy Abyss @gameboyabyss.bsky.social · 26/09/2026

-But it's overall just such a fragile setting that any internal logic falls apart after moments of thoughts. There's also an insane, modern-day dance sequence that is admittadly very cute between Scarlet and Modern Pacifist Man but it comes out of nowhere and just... doesn't make any sense

100

Mitch @ The Game Boy Abyss @gameboyabyss.bsky.social · 26/09/2026

Why does Scarlet's uncle, the king of Denmark in the 16th century, rule the otherworld? As much as a joke it would be, why the fuck wouldn't Hitler or some massive dictator be the one calling the shots? Maybe the otherworld was a metaphor for Scarlet trying to live through her 'death' to return-

100

Mitch @ The Game Boy Abyss @gameboyabyss.bsky.social · 26/09/2026

-sense either. It's described as a place where time mixes, so you've got all the goons from Scarlet's present still menacing her, along with cultures and soldiers from a variety of time periods... but not too modern! Why aren't there modern soliders? Futuristic creatures? Why just... the past?

100

Mitch @ The Game Boy Abyss @gameboyabyss.bsky.social · 26/09/2026

-Local Pacifist from Modern Japan turns up and she suddenly just... doesn't get to do cool combat stuff anymore. She either gets her ass handed her, someone or something else takes out her foes, or both at the same time. The entire existance of the otherworld-purgatory place just also doesn't make-

100

Mitch @ The Game Boy Abyss @gameboyabyss.bsky.social · 26/09/2026

The basic premise isn't bad - Scarlet dies, goes to the Otherworld where she gets a chance to kill her evil uncle who ruined their country after she failed in life. There's a whole opening sequence where she gets to train in combat and looks awesome, but after about twenty minutes-

100

Mitch @ The Game Boy Abyss @gameboyabyss.bsky.social · 26/09/2026

SCARLET is a total mess from start to finish. Beyond genuinely gorgeous visuals (seriously, might be some of the best anime CG I've seen yet), this movie managed to make me confused, bored, pissed off, and utterly befuddled multiple times throughout it's runtime

110

Mitch @ The Game Boy Abyss @gameboyabyss.bsky.social · 26/09/2026

More to say shortly, but I'm floored Hosoda made a movie I disliked more than Mirai
