Good read this. Essential for anyone who is grappling with the politics of greed and consumption. Eventually it will take something you care about, and if that's your favourite sport then you are lucky. It could be your country or your life.

📢 The PM'S promise to end the triple lock next parliament is good news for the public finances, and for the vulnerable pensioners who lose far more from a broken care system than they gain from a random ratchet on their pension ⤵️
Ruth Curtice, Chief Executive of the Resolution Foundation, said:
“The triple lock is a terribly designed policy that has cost far more than originally anticipated and yet failed to reduce pensioner poverty. The Prime Minister has been under pressure to show that he can take tough decisions on public spending – and scrapping the triple lock is a good way to demonstrate that.
“Recycling the savings from scrapping the triple lock into social care will especially help vulnerable pensioners who stand to lose far from a broken care system than they gain from a random ratchet on how the State Pension is increased.”

Definitely some things to like in Burnham’s speech - anything that finally addresses some of the iniquities of the Thatcher years is to be welcomed. Electoral reform is overdue too. Not sure he “gets” the other countries in the UK are not exactly like devolved regions of England.

It bugs me a bit that the counter protest is described as "nationalist", instead of "people with legitimate concerns" about a large group of men from another culture marching past their houses.

Genuine question @lothianbuses.bsky.social when a bus is shown on a live tracker (5mins), counts down, then “disappears”, leaving the live tracked bus in 14 mins - where did the lost one go? Do they turn off their tracker?

It sounds defeatist but it’s highly unlikely Hearts will win the tie tonight - possible but odds stacked against. We shouldn’t judge the season now if we lose - arguably finishing second did us no favours in terms of Europe as we’d have had more winnable ties from 3rd.

ULEZ was never a crack down on people driving, always a push for better respiratory health. 🚗 💨 “Examinations of London schoolchildren before and after the introduction of the city’s ultra-low emission zone (Ulez) found a restoration of lung capacity […] stunted by exposure to pollution”.

Feels like it could be an exciting season with Hearts - open and will concede goals but will also score. Kerjota, McPake and Miller all exciting. Mato and Wilson looked useful today. Ba’sy a bit off it still. McCart better CB today, even on the right.

Shankland will come good and score goals. McInnes will probably manage to imbed his system and get some success. I am least sure Devlin will survive the scrutiny of playing for such an entitled club and the exposure that comes with it
