For those at COSYNE, I am presenting a poster tonight 🫡 I'll be talking about a V1 complex cell model that factorizes phase and amplitude, and what the dependencies between the phase distributions suggest.
poster 1-005, A factorization model of V1 complex cells is selectively invariant

I've tried Perplexity (I have Pro through school) to find relevant papers and honestly it's not great, but I haven't tried all the new fancy models. I think once in a while it gives me stuff that is genuinely helpful, but it's always basic stuff I could've also just found with a Google search.

I see. My problem has always been that the doublechecking part takes basically as much time as doing it myself in the first place. As long as it's not guaranteed to be correct (or I don't trust it's correct), I feel like the gains are marginal if any? But maybe your experience is different.

bsky.app/profile/gale... yeah destroying universities is clearly contradictory to the technowhatever, pro-SV signaling of the administration. it just feels like another superficial goal covering something more fundamental and sinister. which i guess is just seizing all power?
120
galen @galenbrain.bsky.social · 08/02/2025
we have all become experts overnight on indirect costs so we know the potential negative impacts to health research. but the only benefits i can immediately see for the administration are 1. upholding their anti-woke promises, 2. demonstration of power/authoritarianism. what else is there?
100
galen @galenbrain.bsky.social · 08/02/2025
can someone help me understand what the actual goal is in these NIH cuts? sure you have the partisan bullshit of defunding the "leftist agenda" that is universities, apparently. but the administration knows the real implications, even if most trump supporters don't. is it just pure authoritarianism?
241
galen @galenbrain.bsky.social · 08/02/2025
It's not surprising I guess, but still so incredible to me that the very basic concept of university education is accepted as leftist agenda, esp given all the ivy League people in the administration
