Based on what I have seen: I am doubtful it will be anything other than a "Midnight Suns" set. The Suns are like Marvel's more magic focused team. The roster has some non magic characters sometimes but usually they have a mystical twist. X-Men movie is supposed to be 2028 so it would cross promote.

It could be fine in a self mill deck, but it would be much better in a meta that had Battle of Wits in it. Remember: Feldon's Cane is legal so self milling Approaches on a 200+ card deck would be an Alt win con. WotC just doesn't want us to have Wits fun anymore though it would appear.

This is my favorite flavor text in all of FRA. Why? I worked as an Application Administrator for years. When something would happen to the app, it was easy to identify when aberrant data was affecting the result. You know what wasn't easy? Proving the ABSENCE of data was what the problem was.

I agree. We've seen "3 mana rock with upside" be one of the most important cards in recent Limited. The Manalith shape is too slow for current play... Manalith+ is exactly perfect to make big impacts.

It was right there and they fucked up way harder than they should have. This would have had story relevance, nostalgia, and would have been a great way to bring in older format players who wanted, say a text less version of this card. The amount this bag was fumbled is frankly insane.

Oh it's a great word to use in context! My gripe is more with how Hone counters have already been used and in a VERY different context with Uvilda. If this card didn't exist, neither does this thread. There are interesting design spaces to explore there, and the new counter use could stop that.

Hone as a word does directly relate to sharpening a blade, but there is a difference. I used the word "sharpen" to describe Honing as an action. You don't need to say that with a Shield. Shielding is naturally protection. Hone can mean many things, as evidenced by Uvilda using the term to "study."

Now there is precedent of changing a counter name with Shield Counters and Palliation accord. IMO this was a great decision. Change 1 obscure card from 15 years ago to a new counter to get a very thematic name... The problem is, "Hone" isn't exactly evocative like "Shield" is.

Hone counters seemed interesting so I went ahead and looked up if they had been used before. Turns out they had... On a random STX rare to do a weird Suspend variant. Normally this isn't a big deal, but something just felt wrong here. So I dug into the matter a bit more.

So let's talk about words and their baggage in MTG. Over the weekend, WotC showed some cool new cards from The Hobbit set. Great! We love new cards! I play Mono White Frodo as a "Mathoms commander" or Equipment that costs 2 or 3. Much to my delight, a new Sting in the Mathom cost was shown!
