It's not just a reflexive habit. Often they very much see you as the gender you present, but pick up on something that clues them into "this person is trans," clocking if you will, in those instances it's straight up bigotry. I find these types of misgendering to be more common of late.

Getting told that our venue was the favorite place they played by bands because of my lighting and projection work always had me glowing for days. It happened at a rate of like once a year. I miss doing it, but definitely got a little burned out after a decade and a half.
