One of the most successful pedestrian streets in the world, the Strøget in Copenhagen, was filled with cars until a 2 year pedestrianization pilot project in 1962. The opposition argued “no cars means no business,” but the street has been a massive retail success, the city’s busiest shopping street.
The famous Copenhagen shopping street where it opens up into a triangular public place and gathering place, filled with people.

This is wild, I just checked my own name, and I also wasn’t on the list! Check your name and add it here: ottawa.ca/en/city-hall... I’ll be following up with Elections Ottawa to find out what’s up. But on voting day, you can also just show ID or sign an attestation at the polls to be able to vote.

We need sustainable solutions to security in Centretown and Chinatown that deal with the root causes of poverty, food insecurity, addiction, mental health crises and homelessness. You can count on me to keep fighting, so living downtown doesn’t have to be so exhausting.

Living in a dense urbanized city is one of the best choices you can make to protect the planet - a fun fact you can deploy against people who want to get all self-righteous about the supposed evils of cities.

As Beer Stores shut their doors, who will take your empties? | CBC News
Charities say they're ready to step in and pick up empties, but a waste reduction advocate worries more cans and bottles will end up in landfill.

The Charge keep packing TD Place to the rafters. Reminder that the City of Ottawa wants to cut the arena from ~9000 seats to 5,500 because they hate hockey fans and the community.

The City of Ottawa would be something worse than incompetent if they shrink the Lansdowne arena. The Ottawa Charge need a bigger space, not a smaller one. The team is a force. It’s a community. Keep the game accessible, Ottawa. Don’t blow Lansdowne, again.

I saw advice to buy extra cans of food when you’re at the grocery store to donate to the food bank. I want to politely nudge you to give the money directly to food banks (or to mutual aid groups if you know of any). We can usually stretch a dollar farther than a dollar’s worth of canned goods

In this day and age, living in a place that - you like, - you can afford, - you can find a job, - you have family/friends, - you feel safe, and - you *are* safe from natural disasters/bad laws/worse is luxury and privilege. Almost no one gets to check all the boxes. So maybe don’t be an asshole.

I come from a long line of bookies and gamblers. I understood the betting line on Sunday afternoon football when I was 7. I can count cards at blackjack. The almost complete lack of regs on advertising is delinquent. Alcohol, tobacco and cannabis have proper legal frameworks. Gambling does not.
