Glad to see this profile of Operation Come Home’s Bottleworks program, one of their many social enterprises that employ youth at risk of homelessness. www.cbc.ca/news/canada/...

As Beer Stores shut their doors, who will take your empties? | CBC News

Charities say they're ready to step in and pick up empties, but a waste reduction advocate worries more cans and bottles will end up in landfill.

A deposit-return system would make it challenging for grocers to comply but making this instant cash-back for ALL recyclable beverage containers could be a condition of allowing alcohol sales in grocery stores. A 10 cent deposit on all recyclable containers would be an incentive to return them.

Not sure how I feel about this. On my street there is an entrepreneurial Indigenous woman who picks up the bottles. She told me she is being competed against with someone in a truck. Would be nice if they could pick an area that doesn’t compete with the homeless. Kind of defeats the point.
