Funtime2025 @funtime2025.bsky.social · 13/07/2026I love to look at the public art in and around Edmonton. My favourite is probably "High Jinx" by artist Paul Freeman. The deer sculptures are on top of both the Northbound and Southbound Avonmore LRT station shelter roofs. More info: www.edmontonarts.ca/public-art/h... 000

Funtime2025 @funtime2025.bsky.social · 18/04/2026Books and just... the written word in general... is awesome! Here are my thoughts and opinions, communicated to you, without my being there. What a great human invention! While on the subject, support your public libraries. And your academic libraries. You know what, just libraries in general. 000
Funtime2025 @funtime2025.bsky.social · 25/03/2026I think this is another example of how cars are just seen as the normal way to get around. If I was worried I would probably take transit. There will be more people on the bus if something does happen, plus you don't bring an expensive item with you that can be stolen or broken into. Just a thought. 000
Funtime2025 @funtime2025.bsky.social · 25/03/2026I could maybe understand if you stayed in the car, but the sentence summarized the thoughts of a restaurant owner. People who go to a restaurant are usually gonna leave their cars for a bit to go eat. Shouldn't they be worried about their cars getting broken into or stolen if crime is that bad? 100
Funtime2025 @funtime2025.bsky.social · 25/03/2026Second thing that popped into my mind reading this sentence. Isn't it kinda stupid that people apparently don't feel safe walking in this neighbourhood, but feel safer if they bring their heavy, multi-thousand dollar vehicle? If crime is that bad, shouldn't you leave your precious car at home? 100
Funtime2025 @funtime2025.bsky.social · 25/03/2026I realize these are complex issues and that there really isn't a one size fits all approach, but shouldn't we, as a society, you know... actually help people who need it? Like what a healthy society is supposed to do. At the very least we could be doing better than what we are currently doing. 100
Funtime2025 @funtime2025.bsky.social · 25/03/2026So first thing. The solution to the problem of social disorder (which I will assume is used here to mean homelessness and drug use) is probably NOT bringing back parking, but more something along the lines of actually helping people who are suffering from homelessness and who have drug use problems. 100
Funtime2025 @funtime2025.bsky.social · 25/03/2026Now, I've already examined the argument of a "lack of parking" in Chinatown before (summary: I think it's bullshit), so I'm not going to address it again. I do find the following quote interesting: "Van said concerns around social disorder and safety in the area are impacting foot traffic." 100
Funtime2025 @funtime2025.bsky.social · 25/03/2026Just read this article and watched the video inside the article. One of the complaints from a business owner is that a dedicated bus lane that already exists has cut the amount of sales she gets because people don't feel safe walking in the neighbourhood she's located in and there's less parking.cbc.caEdmontonians flag safety, parking concerns as city mulls transit priority measures, bus rapid transit | CBC NewsResidents and businesses in Edmonton’s Chinatown told city council’s urban planning committee on Monday that they are worried about how bus rapid transit routes might be implemented. 100

Funtime2025 @funtime2025.bsky.social · 06/03/2026Fighting against building a bus lane in an effort to preserve street parking is ultimately something that harms the health of this city and its citizens. We should encourage the development of better public transit and better pedestrian and bicycle infrastructure, not fight against it. 130
Funtime2025 @funtime2025.bsky.social · 06/03/2026To reduce the number of parking lots we need to make our city less dependant on cars so you don't NEED a car to shop, visit friends, or go out and have fun. And that means making public transit a better, faster option, and means building bus lanes so those buses can get where they need quickly. 110
Funtime2025 @funtime2025.bsky.social · 06/03/2026That is 1/4 of a city block that could instead be better used as the location of a grocery store, a restaurant, or any number of businesses. If we weren't so car dependant, it could be so many better things. Our city is filled to the brim with vast, ugly parking lots. 100
Funtime2025 @funtime2025.bsky.social · 06/03/2026Let's expand out even more! The city block below the one where Freecloud Records is located has this monstrosity of a parking lot (bottom right of the attached picture)! It takes over 1/4 of the space of a city block. 100
Funtime2025 @funtime2025.bsky.social · 06/03/2026Well, if his customers are ready to do a little bit of walking (and couldn't we all use a bit more exercise), there's Impark Lot #448. Looking at their website (lots.impark.com/imp?utm_sour...) we learn it has 22 spaces, is also open 24/7, and also has an hourly rate of 2$/hour. 100
Funtime2025 @funtime2025.bsky.social · 06/03/2026Sure looks like there's enough parking to me! There's Impark lot #376 which is right next to him, and according to their website (lots.impark.com/imp?utm_sour...), it has 35 spaces, is open 24/7, and has an hourly rate of 2$/hour. But what if it gets full!? 100
Funtime2025 @funtime2025.bsky.social · 06/03/2026Now I'm gonna pick on Freecloud Records because he went through the effort of contacting a newspaper to air his grievances (to be fair, that is apparently the opinion of multiple Chinatown businesses). The screenshot is a satellite picture from Google Maps. 110
Funtime2025 @funtime2025.bsky.social · 06/03/2026Read this article in the Edmonton Journal where business owners in Edmonton's Chinatown are saying they would prefer the city not build a bus lane on 101st. Why? Because it would remove parking that is just so impossible to find! You know what!?
