I apparently never uploaded this. It's from a while back, when I was really starting to get into Touhou- portrait of Hong Meiling. As simple as the colors are for this, I think it comes together really well. I should play around with not using pure white more often.

Experimental post: The Duality of Whacka In the Switch version of Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door, Whacka can finally be fought, and has a suspiciously specific 108 HP. The game both offers a ridiculously simplistic explanation for this as well as a complex one steeped in Dharmic symbolism.

In Paper Mario, the original version of Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door, and Super Paper Mario, Whacka was just a harmless whack-a-mole creature that could be abused to get Whacka Bumps, extremely valuable healing items. After being hit enough times, the Whacka goes extinct, teaching the players the consequences of their actions. However, in the Switch version of Paper Mario: TTYD, he instead moves to the bottom of the Pit of 100 Trials and becomes an optional superboss with 108 HP.
He is fought at the bottom of the Pit of 100 Trials and has to be hit 8 times in order for the fight to activate.
but also
The number 108 is considered sacred by the Dharmic religions, such as Hinduism, Buddhism, and Jainism.
Whacka symbolizes karma for killing him in past games
ring the bell 108 times, per Japanese tradition? The ringing of the bell represents the 108 bonno-defilements of man..
Buddhism holds the view that there are precisely 108 temptations on the path to Nirvana.
Therefore, in order to reach Nirvana, every Buddhist must resist 108 earthly temptations.
With a combination of any of the elements of the above four factors, there are 108 ways with which the karmas can be attracted to the soul.
the earthly temptation to get those Whacka Bumps
There are 108 qualities of praiseworthy souls
Some people think that the human spirit travels through 108 stages, while others believe that enlightenment is attainable with just 108 breaths each day while in Intense meditation,
108 beads to awaken your inner light
Meditators count mantra repetitions with mala beads of 108, (100 counted for self, 8 for mistakes and for those who have not the opportunity to meditate in mantra)
108 breaths to return to your truth
108 mantras to dissolve ego into dever
108 steps from the self to the soul
The Sacred Meaning of 108 Temple Steps
the journey to Whacka is a journey of enlightenment

Slasher is such a good design in that even when you deconstruct her base appearance to abstraction you can still pick up on familiar shapes that make up Her. I love that about her and your art.

An illustration of Felicia and Morrigan from the Darkstalker series. Morrigan has her arm wrapped around Felicia's shoulder and flashing a devilish smile. There's hearts flowing around her head. Felicia looks caught off guard and jumpy, but still blushing.

(1/5) late reply sorry!! ive been drawing for as long as i remember so i think the two main things for me are passion and frequency like, these two 2025 MoCa refs are only like 8-ish months apart, but drawing them over and over changed a lot about how i approach drawing them..

strawpage: Might be an overasked question but could you share how you started/improved drawing? I really like your artstyle and as a wanna be artist that's very much lost in the sauce I would love to know what your way of learning art was, thank you and hope you feel better :3

a little louder for the cheap seats in the back

One of the biggest myths is that men rape by mistake. Like, "Oh, they need consent training." But research is very clear: Sexual violence is not a mistake. It is an intentionally made decision by people who know they don't have consent. They just don't prioritize consent over things like status, power, domination, and sexual gratification.
For my research, I got a certificate of confidentiality from the National Institutes of Health, so my notes couldn't be subpoenaed. One of the reasons I call them perpetrators in my work is because every single person I interviewed confessed in that context. The first question I would ask them was, "When you received that email from Title IX that you were under investigation, did you know what it was about?" Every perpetrator I interviewed said "yes." If sexual assault were a miscommunication, you would be wondering, What have I possibly done wrong? That is not the way that any of them reacted because they knew.
