In 2018, the EU found that Farage had misspent public funds intended for parliamentary staffing. They found he had used EU money to pay an assistant who was actually working on domestic UKIP party matters. As a result, the EU docked 50% of his MEP salary to recoup £35,500 of misspent funds.

This is the party that can be trusted with money, as any fool
knows, so it’s unreasonable to expect them to keep legal accounts. And
as David Davis was about to demonstrate, it was also unreasonable to
expect them to do the bare minimum of planning or research. He’d
rubbished the Treasury’s forecasts of economic harm if we left the EU
without a trade deal, but in March, when the Brexit Select Committee
asked him for his own impact assessment, he said he hadn’t done one.
‘You don’t need a piece of paper with numbers on it to have an
economic assessment,’ he said.

When asked if holidaying Britons would lose access to healthcare
across the EU, he replied, ‘I haven’t looked at that one.’
When asked about the implications on personal data sharing, he
said he ‘did not know’.
When asked if the services sector – which is 79 per cent of
Britain’s GDP – would lose rights to trade in the EU after Brexit, he
