Closest I had to this was when I went back to uni for my masters, and the sample essay they gave us as a model of what a high-quality, properly referenced essay looked like was one of my own from undergraduate.

Exercising. Going for a run, or to the gym. It pushes the problem into the back of my brain, where my subconscious can noodle away at it in the meantime.

The fact that you apparently can’t bring yourself to name the aggressive party in this incident- the United States- speaks volumes. If you let not even willing to address them by name here, how will you ever stand up to them if and when the time comes?

My final MA portfolio, I write “iron railings flacked with rust” (instead of “flecked”) in a dystopian story, and the marker praised my “unique approach to language.”

The irony of people constantly complaining about that scene is that it’s actually one of the best scenes in the whole story, in my opinion.

Why is Rogue the only one who’s bum forward?

Sorry, but you’re wrong; real fans know that each colour has a different attribute. Only the red is hot, while blue is cold, purple is sleep, yellow is electric, and so on.

They should switch to sets of 2- & 3-parters, mostly self-contained, with a “finale” every couple of years as the climax of the companion’s character arc. Focus more on character-led storylines over the “mystery of the season,” which doesn’t really work with the smaller episode count.

Reminds me of the story that they were once filming an episode of Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy in a quarry, heard a commotion nearby, & discovered another group filming an episode of Doctor Who nearby at the same time (or possibly vice versa?)

Ok, but imagine the Seal Door opens, and instead of Omega, it’s Sutekh. Because you can’t kill death, only delay it. Death is inevitable, and patient, and always waiting.

I was saying this to a friend yesterday. In terms of regenerations, we’re now as far from Tennant as Tennant was from Baker.

“What do I do now?” she asks. “The only thing you can do; You go forward,” says the therapist, as the camera slowly pans round to reveal Carol Anne Ford. “Despite the regrets, the tears, the anxieties. You go forward with your beliefs.”

Maybe not as a big role, but a cameo. Like, Ruby fails to convince everyone that Poppy was real, & he goes off travelling with Belinda. And then it’s 6 months later, & Ruby is telling her therapist about how she’s struggling being the only one who remembers this child who supposedly never existed

I don’t have a problem with it, but I guess the difference is that those were all mostly one-off characters or from spin-offs (I’m not even sure where Children of Earth falls in terms of being cannon or not), whereas Rose is still one of the most iconic & significant characters in the show’s history

I know all the Doctor’s numbers, but with the inclusion of War & Fugitive it’s definitely now easier at times to refer to them either by the actor’s last name (except for Tennant, obviously) or by some other signifier like season number or story title.

I wonder if she was in the original ending, but got written out when they changed it to accommodate the regeneration scene?

It’s not that we should always trust authority; it’s that we should be wary of populist figures who tell us what we want to hear.

Ok, but the whole point is that Conrad’s distrust isn’t real: he’s just a grifter. He knows that aliens are real- he’s seen the Shreek, the TARDIS, the Doctor etc- but he’s using other people’s legitimate doubts & skepticism for money & fame.

I’ve been thinking similar for a while. So many people online seem unhappy with the show, & I keep wanting to encourage them to try some fan fiction etc. Not only is it a healthier outlet for their frustration, but they might hit on an idea that they could then develop into something of their own.

Overall, though, my feelings towards RTD2 can be summed up with this:

Fred @frochez.bsky.social · 01/06/2025
While there are elements I enjoyed, it definitely feels like they radically changed the ending from what was originally planned (15 & Belinda continue on, Ruby is the only one who remembers Poppy). The reveal at the end has potential, but they need to be very careful how they do it.

Fred @frochez.bsky.social · 01/06/2025
The fact that even RTD is aware that everyone is tired of it (“I’m surprised it wasn’t the other guy”) but he’s *still* doing it is so frustrating. Acknowledging the problem isn’t the same as actually addressing it…
030
Fred @frochez.bsky.social · 01/06/2025
I definitely think the original ending was for the Doctor & Belinda to go off on more adventures while everyone else celebrates, leaving Ruby (the audience surrogate) as the only one who remembers Poppy. Herself a foundling, she has to carry the memory of another lost child on her own.

Fred @frochez.bsky.social · 01/06/2025
I don’t think that can have been a deciding factor; there’s no way they could rewrite & reshoot the entire latter half of the episode in less than 2 weeks & get it ready to air in time. Even getting all the cast together on such short notice would be nearly impossible.

“I’ve been popped out of my timeline because there’s a great big Time Schism on its way, caused by you.” Can’t help but wonder if this is setting up the next season or a future multi-Doctor special… #doctorwho

Even Missy, who was eventually killed off, was able to return for 3 separate appearances prior to that, & even when she dies it’s the end of a specific incarnation of the character.

He did it in RTD1 with the Daleks (3 times), the Cybermen, the Master, & the Time Lords. In RTD2, he’s done it with the Rani, Sutekh, & Omega. Contrast that with Moffat, who managed to leave most of his villains (Cybermen, Time Lords, Daleks, even the Silence) in a state that they can come back/

It makes it really hard to bring them back in a way that makes sense (and they always come back eventually). It’s like a kid who finally gets to play with their favourite toy at daycare, & then rather than returning it to the box for the next kid, they break it in half.

Something I’ve noticed with both of RTD’s runs of #doctorwho is that he falls into the same trap with his villains as the MCU. He seems to think that the only narratively satisfying way to deal with a big threat is to end the story with their deaths/destruction. The problem with that is that/

It could be worse. The episode could have ended with Gatwa regenerating into Susan Twist… because There’s Always A Twist At The End.

I think it could work if they really establish her as her own thing, so that there’s no ambiguity for the audience (in the same way that 12 isn’t Cecilius). She needs her own styling, wardrobe, mannerisms, accent, etc.

Fred @frochez.bsky.social · 01/06/2025
Got to say, I don’t love Belinda’s ending. If you take a step back, the Doctor saving Poppy pretty much rewrote Belinda’s entire timeline, essentially killing the original character to bring back a version of Poppy who isn’t even the one that they’d known during Wish World. #DoctorWho

She isn’t, though. It just says “introducing Billie Piper” rather than “introducing Billie Piper as the Doctor.” I guess time will tell…
100
Fred @frochez.bsky.social · 01/06/2025
I think Billie works as 16 as long as they really hammer home that she’s the Doctor, not Rose/Bad Wolf/The Moment (in the same way that 12 wasn’t Caecilius). She needs her own styling, wardrobe, mannerisms, speech patterns (no East London accent!) to set her apart

Yeah. There’s a rumour that Disney have really dragged their feet on renewing, and he ended up getting other offers that he didn’t want to turn down. A real shame, in my opinion.

Fred @frochez.bsky.social · 01/06/2025
He definitely deserved at least another season to take on public feedback and grow into the role, like Capaldi did.
000
Fred @frochez.bsky.social · 01/06/2025
An easy fix (for me) would have been leaving the identity of the creature ambiguous. Strip out its dialogue. The Doctor & Rani speculate on its identity, but can’t be certain. Is it a corrupted Omega? Some sort of guardian from the Underverse? Some other entity entirely? No one knows.
000
Fred @frochez.bsky.social · 01/06/2025
He definitely deserved another season. Most Doctors get a chance to grow into the role & refine their portrayal based on public feedback, but because they filmed the seasons back to back, Gatwa didn’t get that chance (which could have addressed a lot of issues that people picked up on)

Fred @frochez.bsky.social · 01/06/2025
Set him up in UNIT across from the Vlinx and let them have a staring contest.
110
Fred @frochez.bsky.social · 31/05/2025
I’m kind of glad they didn’t try to fit Susan in. Her return needs to be something they build up to through a season (like Rose in s4), rather than tacked on to 2 episodes.
010
Fred @frochez.bsky.social · 31/05/2025
So we’re just never seeing Rogue again, right? I can’t imagine them bringing him back for any story where Gatwa isn’t the Doctor, and certainly not one where the Doctor isn’t male. #DoctorWho
