Overall, though, my feelings towards RTD2 can be summed up with this:

“I’ve been popped out of my timeline because there’s a great big Time Schism on its way, caused by you.” Can’t help but wonder if this is setting up the next season or a future multi-Doctor special… #doctorwho

Ok, but the new #doctorwho casting gets 10x funnier when you consider these posts, one of which was earlier *this year*

This is the funniest part about the new casting, IMO:

The state of Twitter ads today is genuinely shocking. What even is this nonsense?

Ok, but what if they’re actually the gods of Ragnarok/unholy trinity? Other than Sutekh (nostalgia) all of the gods have been associated with entertainment (games, music, film). All those things exist to keep an audience entertained. And if the audience look away-the show dies. #doctorwho

Apparently Rick & Morty is “great sci-fi without [an] agenda.” Ok then. (This is about the new series of #DoctorWho, by the way)

The moment you realise that the author famous for a series of books where the villain can’t understand the concept of love… doesn’t understand the concept of love.

Looks like some people are mad about Captain America, a character who was famous for fighting Nazis in the 40s, has been depicted in the latest issue of #ultimates… fighting Nazis. *sigh* #marvel #marvelcomics #captainamerica #theultimates

“Americans are very intense about patriotism” is a truism that is being tested in… interesting ways. (Also, the most interesting Captain America continues to be the Marx-reading gay one in Avengers Academy)

Ok, am I the only one seeing the start of a pattern here? #Namor was always ethnically ambiguous, but they made him explicitly Latino to play the villain in #BlackPanther 2. The Hood is white in the comics, but they’ve made him Latino to play the villain in #Ironheart.

Holding space for this random Shiz university twink in Dancing Through Life. I, too, would pass out if Jonathan Bailey put his legs either side of me & rubbed my head.

While I *love* that everyone is so hyped for #Wicked right now, I’d like to take this opportunity to point out that the most accurate depiction of Frank Baum’s Wicked Witch of the West is, and always has been… …Miss Piggy.

With an updated version of The War Games, perhaps they could add future Doctors to the scene where the Doctor has the chance to pick his next face… “He’s too thin!” & it’s David Tennant “He’s too young!” & it’s Matt Smith Because if there’s one thing Doctor Who lacks, it’s circular self-references

This is great. Personally, I’m a fan of Ursula Le Guinn’s ritual, although for me it’s more “wake up, roll over and sleep for another hour.”

Is it red, or is it brown? I have to say; while I like that they’ve tied the carried costumes into his characterisation, I wish they used his “main” look more. There’s no real reason he couldn’t have worn it in 73 Yards, or Boom (minus the coat).

A hardback copy of the novel Wicked by Gregory Maguire. The book is well read, with visible signs of wear on the corners and at the spine.
The cover is Matt black, with the face of the Wicked Witch of the West emerging from the darkness in a metallic, emerald green. She is surrounded by branches and flowers, which come together to form the shape of a pointed witch’s hat above her head.

Bonus: The Twist At The End. Not going to lie, I’m glad they cut this. I don’t love the song, and I think it would have lead to a lot of grumbling among certain viewers. If nothing else, it doesn’t really fit the tone for the climactic scene of both the story & the season.

The Doctor’s whistle: It’s fine for the whistle to be part of the centuries of junk that the Doctor accumulated in his travels. I didn’t really need to know where it came from. It also ruins the magic; the TARDIS comes because the Doctor calls, like she always does. It doesn’t need to be programmed
100
Fred @frochez.bsky.social · 23/11/2024
Empire if Death: I’ll always have time for the Doctor showing the TARDIS some love. The scenes adds a bit more jeopardy to the story, & it’s nice to know what happened to the memory TARDIS, but how can a memory die?

Legend of Ruby Sunday: “…his name is Sutekh!” Honestly, I had to rewatch the actual episode to see what’s different here. This version doesn’t add much, although it does get rid of the Doctor confusing acrostics with anagrams.

Fred @frochez.bsky.social · 23/11/2024
The Woman Is Still There. Again, it’s an emotionally powerful scene, but it’s kind of unnecessary. I much prefer Ruby’s quiet resignation to the Woman’s continued presence.

Fred @frochez.bsky.social · 23/11/2024
73 Yards: Ruby’s all alone. This is really sweet, and it’s a great way of establishing Ruby’s fear of abandonment & that deep-seated anxiety. I like that it confirms that Ruby actually waited for a bit, rather than just heading off. But it is a slow scene, in an episode already full of slow scenes.
100
Fred @frochez.bsky.social · 23/11/2024
Music returns: This is fun, but we don’t really need it. We already hear all that noise and excitement, so we don’t need to see it, too.
100
Fred @frochez.bsky.social · 23/11/2024
Time’s going to go crazy: Now *this* they should have kept! It actually sets up “Twist at the End,” rather than plunging straight into it, and you really get a sense of the Doctor and Ruby’s excitement.
100
Fred @frochez.bsky.social · 23/11/2024
Maestro’s musings: Again, this doesn’t really add anything to the episode, beyond bringing the cosmic tuning fork into play earlier. However, it is nice to see a bit more of Jynxx’s range (it all got a bit screamy-stompy-pantomime at the end for my liking)
100
Fred @frochez.bsky.social · 23/11/2024
The Devil’s Chord: Someone’s stolen music! Why was this cut? RTD says that the Doctor couldn’t actually know what’s happening, but speculating & drawing conclusions is what the Doctor *does.* It’s also nice to see the Doctor righteously angry about something.
100
Fred @frochez.bsky.social · 23/11/2024
The Doctor checks on the bogeyman: We sort of see this on the monitors in the background. Makes sense to put it there, rather than as a scene in its own right. Fun fact: this is also how I act when people try to talk to me before I’ve had breakfast.
100
Fred @frochez.bsky.social · 23/11/2024
Gooey hallways: This also doesn’t really add much to the episode as a whole.
100
Fred @frochez.bsky.social · 23/11/2024
Space Babies: Ruby’s story. This is a really sweet scene, and Millie does a great job, but it’s nothing that we don’t get through the rest of the series.

Fred @frochez.bsky.social · 23/11/2024
Doors, doors, doors. Yeah, I can see why they cut this. What we got was more than enough to establish what’s going on.
