Closest I had to this was when I went back to uni for my masters, and the sample essay they gave us as a model of what a high-quality, properly referenced essay looked like was one of my own from undergraduate.

New Year’s resolution: ditching Twitter once and for all. What’s life like over here?

Ok, but imagine the Seal Door opens, and instead of Omega, it’s Sutekh. Because you can’t kill death, only delay it. Death is inevitable, and patient, and always waiting.

“I’ve been popped out of my timeline because there’s a great big Time Schism on its way, caused by you.” Can’t help but wonder if this is setting up the next season or a future multi-Doctor special… #doctorwho

Something I’ve noticed with both of RTD’s runs of #doctorwho is that he falls into the same trap with his villains as the MCU. He seems to think that the only narratively satisfying way to deal with a big threat is to end the story with their deaths/destruction. The problem with that is that/

It could be worse. The episode could have ended with Gatwa regenerating into Susan Twist… because There’s Always A Twist At The End.

Got to say, I don’t love Belinda’s ending. If you take a step back, the Doctor saving Poppy pretty much rewrote Belinda’s entire timeline, essentially killing the original character to bring back a version of Poppy who isn’t even the one that they’d known during Wish World. #DoctorWho

So we’re just never seeing Rogue again, right? I can’t imagine them bringing him back for any story where Gatwa isn’t the Doctor, and certainly not one where the Doctor isn’t male. #DoctorWho

Mostly enjoyed lucky day but… there’s a *massive* plot hole: How did Conrad manage to become so influential & rich through attacking UJIY without ending up on some watchlist? How did it not immediately set off alarm bells when Ruby went on his podcast? #doctorwho

Ok, but what if they’re actually the gods of Ragnarok/unholy trinity? Other than Sutekh (nostalgia) all of the gods have been associated with entertainment (games, music, film). All those things exist to keep an audience entertained. And if the audience look away-the show dies. #doctorwho

Ok, am I the only one seeing the start of a pattern here? #Namor was always ethnically ambiguous, but they made him explicitly Latino to play the villain in #BlackPanther 2. The Hood is white in the comics, but they’ve made him Latino to play the villain in #Ironheart.

Also: If you don't have money to buy my (or anyone's) books, and you live in the anglosphere, before you pirate them, try to get them from your local library instead. They have it or can get it, they pay for the books, and in many places writers get paid for their books being lent. Everyone wins!

Loki from Marvel comics, in his Agent of Asgard costume

Wiccan (Billy Kaplan) from Marvel, in the costume he has worn since Young Avengers vol 2 (2015)

Legion (David Haller) from X-Men: Legacy.

Authors Against Book Bans @authorsabb.bsky.social · 25/11/2024

An Open Letter to our Publishers has been sent to over 90 Publishing CEOs this morning in response to the concerns of our members. 1/4

With the election of the trump administration and its policies as embodied by Project 2025, we authors have deep concerns about how our publishers will be operating and how publishers will advocate for and protect authors. Trump's agenda explicitly calls for the criminalization of authors, teachers, librarians, and publishing professionals with the consequences including, "imprison[ment]," and being "classed as registered sex offenders" (pg 4 Project 2025)

For authors who are not citizens, this could also result in deportation. This promises to be a pro-censorship, pro-book-banning administration, and the successful implementation of its policies will require willing compliance of America's institutions, including its corporations.

The freedom to write is as important as the freedom to read. We have been heartened by many publishers' willingness to engage in legal and legislative pathways to fight book banning and want to be sure that you will double-down on your fight during this consequential time.

This past week AABB help open forums with authors from all genres and age levels to better understand author concerns and needs. While this may not be a complete list due to the rapid turnaround, we know we have a short time before January to prepare for what is to come and we want to this start this conversation sooner rather than later.

With an updated version of The War Games, perhaps they could add future Doctors to the scene where the Doctor has the chance to pick his next face… “He’s too thin!” & it’s David Tennant “He’s too young!” & it’s Matt Smith Because if there’s one thing Doctor Who lacks, it’s circular self-references

Picked up this little book of writers’ writing rituals, & I think most of em are liars — “up at dawn, 6 hours at my desk, followed by calisthenics, liquor, & reading edifying works.” But David Lynch delivers the goods.

A hardback copy of the novel Wicked by Gregory Maguire. The book is well read, with visible signs of wear on the corners and at the spine.
The cover is Matt black, with the face of the Wicked Witch of the West emerging from the darkness in a metallic, emerald green. She is surrounded by branches and flowers, which come together to form the shape of a pointed witch’s hat above her head.
