You couldn’t make this up: Salzburg university wants to replace parts of the humanities library, including a famous dance archive, with a gym and sauna. Seriously. The students’ outrage in the comments on instagram is so encouraging! www.instagram.com/p/DdstfSfFw1...

Reading Ivan Illich, it suddenly all makes sense “We could easily be made increasingly dependent on machines for speaking and for thinking, as we are already dependent on machines for moving” from: silence is a commons, 1983

Anastasia Berg places into brackets what I see as a major point: If a researcher is … incapable of evaluating the AI’s output (…then the prompter is already a redundant middleman.) Where students are advice to use AI for writing they are being made redundant. That’s the point.

What happens to war criminals who should be dealt with in The Hague? They receive a guard of honour from the neighbouring country where its president ignores ASEAN, international law and the majority sentiment in his own country and welcomes #Myanmar dictator Min Aung Hlaing, parading as President.

We had a board meeting and the journal editor shared the latest numbers: 70% desk rejects due to #AI at a submission rate of over 1000 articles p.a. Countless hours of extra work.

I think the thing crushing my spirit at the moment (it rotates, but there's always something!) is just the utter selfishness that the AI debate is bringing out in so many people. But I guess that's why it's the big Silicon Valley/GOP play. They know we love being selfish.

"It’s no surprise that 76% of teachers are using #AI tools . . . [also] for marking even creative subjects" Unclear where this number is from but: creativity is not the (only) boundary of AI. It's the ability for critique. It's the ability to be bored, inspiered, to joke.

Best practice! Also for University: My students are also banned from submitting assignments that rely on #AI. But they don't fail the assignment either, because assignments no longer count in terms of grades but in terms of what students want to get out of them. www.bbc.com/news/article...

#ChatGPT is patient and kind; it does not envy or boast; it is not arrogant or rude. It does not insist on its own way; it is not irritable or resentful; it does not rejoice at wrongdoing but rejoices with the truth. ChatGPT bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things
