This won’t be news, but is worth re-stating. Just had to use a taxi. Uber quote was £51. Called local taxi firm. No long hold or automated menus. Straight through to controller. £10. Picked me up in 5 minutes, driver knew his way around. Took cash or card. And didn’t harvest any travel pattern data.

There’s something about the Saturday of a Lord’s test in a hot, dry summer. My Saturday at the NZ Lord’s test (6th June) was an almost total washout. Same thing happened with the Saturday of the Lord’s test in the (then unusually) dry summer of 1976.

Watching #Middlesex v #Kent (stream). First time I’ve seen Ekansh Singh. Not only does he look extremely useful with the ball but is the young bowler I’ve seen in years with a proper sideways-on (think Trueman, Lillee, Roberts) action. Pleasing (apart from the Middlesex victims, obviously).

Saw my first #Arsenal game at Highbury in 1967. I was 10 when we won the double in 1971. My son was 9 and enthralled by Pires, Henry, Viera et al when we were invincible in 2003-4. Fans are wrong to believe any team has a divine right to success, but after 22 years it is nice to be #champions again.

I’ve had 4 communications from organisations today. All have relied heavily on #AI. All are substantially nonsense or in some way diminish the brand they represent. I’ve seen AI put to reasonable use (in support of human expert-led activities). But it’s currently slop for most business purposes.
