I think that the cost factor of the wet process has been far overstated by Tesla. Otherwise: How could all the other batteries ever have become so much cheaper in the last 6 years since "Battery Day"? Certainly fits the pattern with other grandiose statements Musk made in the last decade or so.

SpaceX is not a serious or reliable company. This is unfortunate. I've known and been following the company for almost exactly two decades, but for all the success - this is what it has come to. If you make business with SpaceX, prepare for a strong possibility of disappointment.

Just keep partisan politics out of science. It's that simple. Geological epochs - most commonly lasting millions of years - should not be defined within human life spans on the behest of activist groups. For the same reason, Pluto is not a planet, despite American misgivings.

US interest rates are back up to dotcom era levels. But there is a nuance: Back then, the US was having a budget surplus and interest rates were going down. Now there is a record deficit spending despite nominally red hot economic growth. Interest rates are only going up and will keep going.

Btw, visible light is just as good at heating stuff up as infrared light. It's "heat radiation" because that's the only thing it does, not because no other radiation heats stuff up. Maybe you already knew. But I just remembered that I realized this only at some point pretty late in my life.

It's always fun to predict the future when it is already happening, but few people notice. Millet and sorghum will be much more important crops in the rest of the 21st century than they are today - due to water efficiency, drought resistance and aquifer over-use in rain-limited agriculture.

April 2025, the ancient times when Starship V3 still had 9 Raptor 3 engines, was supposed to fly in November 2025 and had 200 tons of payload. (And Starship V2 had 100t instead of 35t.) Of course, this guy is psychotic enough that he doesn't care about these contradictions. youtu.be/0SA_GVVhIKo?...

Peter Beck also doesn't real world understand economics of rockets. Reusability doesn't lead to increased launch cadence. This is not at all self-reinforcing, it's actually self limiting at the scale of whatever the actual market demand turns out to be. youtu.be/9lYK4laa4tk?...

Any correct interpretation of the Bible has to start by stating the indisputable fact that the dates calculated for the biblical creation of the earth - around 6000 years ago - does not merely coincide with the time when the Sahara and the Middle East dried out, but that this is what it describes.

22 satellites were 37.5 tons, so this is a bit over 40 tons of payload. But the booster won't land and fully return, which will give additional performance margin. Imagine Falcon 9 launching with 4t of payload instead of 17.5t, while ditching the booster. That's the rough equivalent in scale.
