Two men from the borderlands, incentivized by the allure of “whiteness” and the rules of “real manhood” (a relic of Spanish imposition of strict gender roles on the Indigenous people of Latin America), sent to do the dirty grunt work of the oppressor class.

1/🧵 "More voters help Republicans" is reshaping Dem strategy after 2024. We put this claim to the test with a deep dive into voter files and survey data. Results? Non-voters remain disproportionately Democratic while GOP simply turns out their base better.

Is there somewhere I can get an estimate on the tax savings I’m supposed to be seeing in exchange for democracy, my rights, and all the other benefits of a federal government? Like a grand? (Not even considering other costs like debt slavery of course)

It’s wild I haven’t been to Target since. As someone who went there for any & everything. This weekend I had to do shopping. I went to ulta (with a coupon) for some things, I went to Costco, dollar tree and cvs. I did have to go more places but I still got all the things I needed. You can do it.

The NAACP wants Black Americans to take their purchasing power, which some studies value at over a trillion dollars, to businesses that align with the civil rights group's values.

Utter failure to grasp what we are facing www.nytimes.com/2025/02/15/u... 1. People lack the framework to recognize an attempt to overthrow the constitutional order 2. The lack of elites *acting* like point 1 is true makes it illegible. Without Ds behaving as if it's a crisis, it's not a crisis.

My favorite part of both sides-ism is how much money we will spend on security today to prop up the myth that “both sides” are equally likely to try to violently overthrow democracy.

I get the motivation behind the NYC congestion pricing, but can someone tell me how this doesn’t disproportionately place the burden of relieving congestion on the lowest income levels? I get driving in NYC is in itself a luxury to some degree, shouldn’t the richest bear the greatest burden?

Curious what others think: Is the “blood-and-soil” faux-populist racism of Loomer/Bannon et al. (who don’t want H1B visas) distinct from the nihilistic hyper-capitalistic “model minority” racism of Musk et al. (who likely just want H1Bs to continue exploiting immigrants)? Or is it the same thing?

💯. And what this means is the solution isn’t to overburden the few members of minoritized groups who managed to squeeze through the cracks of a system set up against them. It’s to work toward a system that *has more members of minoritized groups in it.*

ICYMI, I wrote about the gender gap in 2024 exit polls. Overall the gender gap wasn't record breaking, but there is a lot under the surface that shouldn't be ignored. E.g. young men and women are living in different worlds online, to major consequence. Check it out: abcnews.go.com/538/gender-g...

I know I’m preaching to a choir here but school “choice” is very very bad and is why we here in the great state of Arizona are dead last in education. Like many things, “choice” here means choice for the rich, even when disguised as a “lottery” or whatever nonsense terminology they use.

My fear these days is the normalization of all this clownery, cruelty, and the selling of a democracy for parts. I know this is a legitimate fear because if I lived in some sort of halfway decent society and was suddenly transported to what our society already has been for decades, I’d be horrified.

Curious when others think, but it irks me when pundits talk about making sure the “pendulum” doesn’t swing too far left or right. I’m of the view that ideology is real, but what swings most voters is what Hibbing & Thiess-Morse (2002) called “process space,” or perceptions of *how* things are done.

My thoughts consistently end with the conclusion that a) we can no longer be “sort of” pro-corporations and sort of against them, and b) too much of the knowledge and messaging that actually appeals to working class Americans is behind a paywall of some sort (news, higher education).

Forget the polls, the forecasts, the “issues that mattered,” the campaigns, and party platforms. What’s clear is that America is due for a real, deep reckoning - a reckoning for its history and what it *is*, that only a small percentage of Americans acknowledge. We have work to do.

Ok my hot take since this seems to be catching on. Although being perceived as “normal” is a huge factor, I have to say progressives - a small minority of the population (that I identify with) often perceived as weird - trying to label radical conservatives “weird” probably isn’t effective.

On the "plagiarism" attack - the truth is that academic writing is dry and formulaic - by design. Factual evidence can only be put forward in so many ways. The most precise way to describe other scholars' findings is often very similar to the way they described it. This is how we all write.
