youtu.be/FNZhxTtOL-I?... From one of the greatest thinkers of our times. At least in my opinion. A must watch for anyone wanted to get a feel for what we are up against. Terrifying. But also a great spur to trying to influence our current trajectory.

Given that a genuine UKIP policy under Farage was "to make the circle line a circle again" this all looks eminently sane.

I see that the knuckle draggers have started their attacks on Count Binface… Clearly beginning to worry their hero’s move yesterday might not have been quite the strategic master stroke they initially thought. It’s not a lot of fun when the grifter finally gets called out I guess… 😂

Never before has a politician announced their intention to run for re-election on an explicitly pro-sleaze, anti-transparency ticket. Never before has a politician gloried in having enriched themselves by breaking the rules, and then demanded a mandate to continue doing so indefinitely

Nigel Farage’s 'Pro-Sleaze' By-Election Is A Sign Of Terminal Weakness
The Reform leader's desperate decision to call a back-me-or-sack-me by-election is a sign of a politician who knows he is finally being exposed for the man he really is, argues Adam Bienkov

It's not about being offended by religious books.
The state using children as a captive congregation is offensive.
Teach religions as history, literature, and culture and all the horrors done in their names?
Fine.
Require one tradition's scripture as classroom authority? No.
That is not faith. That is forced conformity.
Fuck that.

Artist’s painting of a hippo on a flake of limestone 🦛❤️ Perhaps a practice sketch, or simply for the joy of painting 3,500 years ago! From Deir el-Bahri, ancient Thebes, c. 1479–1425 BC 📷 The Met #Archaeology #Art
Met Museum image of an ancient Egyptian artist’s small, naturalistic painting of a standing hippopotamus on an uneven shaped flake of white limestone, dated c. 1479–1425. The hippo is painted in profile with head lowered and to the right. The body is outlined with black paint and painted brown. The belly, eyes, and ears are painted red. Although the ancient Egyptians were well aware of the danger and destructive power of hippos, this painted hippo looks rather harmless. Dimensions: Height 10.8 cm, Width 12 cm

Egyptian artists made practice sketches on flakes of limestone, sometimes for use as templates when transferring an image to a tomb or temple wall. Limestone flakes were readily available because of the constant construction of temples and rock-cut tombs. Better still they cost nothing, unlike papyrus. A number of sketches on linestone were found at Deir el-Bahri during the 1922-23 MMA excavations. This painting was acquired by the museum in the division of finds.

With a daughter of my own to worry about, I get the visceral wish to do something about social media and the allure of the ban on under 16s using such platforms. However, I think this is misguided. Children do need to be protected, but they also need to exposed in a controlled fashion to the world.

You can't claim you're not a publisher when you decide what people see, pay people to create content, and build the AI tools that generate it. That's editorial control. That's publishing. And publishers can be held responsible for what they distribute. Shut down X unless it complies with UK law.

Good article in the FT. However, if you go through the comments, some attack any quoted response from a Dem as anti-Trump and not in the US’s best interest. I find it frustrating that no Rep can conceive that being anti-Trump and having the US’s best interests at heart are not mutually exclusive.

As someone who has had extensive experience of Russia (and who admires its culture and its people, even if I detest the regime), this is both very true and crucial to understand. There is minimal short term threat from Russia. We have time to build up our defences, but we should make sure we do so.

The US under Trump is rightfully becoming a global pariah state and organizing a boycott of the World Cup events here are an appropriate first step imo. His regime (and FIFA with its fake award) deserve shunning.

I don’t know about anyone else, but I’m increasingly infuriated by headlines saying Trump is an “idiot”, “stupid”, “uneducated”, etc. He is all of those things, but it’s irrelevant. What we should focus on, exclusively, is that he is a megalomaniac and almost certainly insane. The rest is trivial.

I suspect he may end up not liking the solutions those “other countries” come up with… The thing is, when you walk away from a club, in this case the broader western alliance, you stop having a say in how it operates. Just ask the Brits after Brexit.

If I were in European, Chinese, Japanese or even Iranian shoes right now, I’d suggest that the Straights could be reopened for goods that have been transacted in anything bar the US$. Apparently it’s already the case for oil shipments denominated in Yuan, so not hard to extend I would have thought…

You get a sense there has been a noticeable shift in the mood around the world towards the current US administration. The strategy of humouring its antics accompanied by an awkward chuckle & a shrug seems to be well and truly gone. Good. Perhaps we can now be more forthright when dealing with them.

I don’t think that Trump announcing that “NATO faces a very bad future” if allies don’t support him against Iran is quite the threat he thinks it is after his little Greenland escapade... Other members may still pretend to believe in the alliance, but I doubt they have any illusions… Consequences…
