I think at this point criticizing people for using GLP-1s for weight loss is a silly and unscientific position to take. Diet and exercise are great for depression but nobody accuses people of cutting corners for taking Zoloft. All evidence suggests these things are incredibly safe and effective.

I know there are a million problems / downsides with this compared to typical aviation, but if you don't think it's super cool, you're just a liar. And materials will only get lighter, batteries will only get denser, etc.

Raising the height cap in the height of buildings act is difficult bc people want the washington monument to be this really big landmark But its economic cost is such that, especially when considering that the washington monument's facade is kinda ugly, we should just redo the monument to be bigger

I wonder how iOS 27's enhanced (iPhone 17-only) dictation performs. Apple used to have by far the worst voice-to-text implementation out of all of the implementations that are actually used.

iCloud Sync is much better than Google's syncing and backups in nearly all ways. That said, I do miss Google Photos' better data offloading implementation. It was much better at letting me upload tons of very high-res images, long videos, etc., without meaningful overhead w/rt my phone's storage.

Been using Mercurial instead of Git for storage efficiency reasons specific to a personal project. I forgot how much I loved Mercurial over Git. I'm not going to pretend to be a VCS expert or anything with strong theoretical arguments for one over the other. My brain just seems to like it more.

My Dyson Cinetic uses a lot of closet space. I'd like to put it on a *hollow* pedestal so I can put things under it. Where can I buy one? I'm sure I'll be told it's easy to DIY w/3-4 planks of wood, and I'm sure anything I order would need assembling 3-4 planks of wood. But preassembled preferred.

It cannot be THAT hard to make a near-indestructible, long USB C cable, let alone a 2 meter one that handles bending well. It's ok. I like that they're cheap and I'm fine with buying new ones. The tradeoff does not bother me that much. I just find it weird that it's a nonexistent product category.

There was a lengthy article in the New York Times yesterday about how men who had lived almost their entire lives in America were being shipped to foreign prisons with no due process and held in conditions so severe they almost died from hunger striking, and it didn’t even make a ripple.

Ecuadorean fishermen say drones attacked them in the Pacific — English-speaking men in US-flag uniforms, no insignia. 8 missing, several injured. Flight data shows a patrol plane shifting course to stay pointed at all 3 boats. It's on no Pentagon roll, registered to a UPS store mailbox in Virginia.

It's poetic that Israel got *this* close to taking Iran out of the picture, only to fail because they told Ukraine to get fucked and to use up the world's very limited supply of available Patriot interceptors. All they had to do was let Ukraine give them tons of money for Arrow 3 production.

What's the reason why MacBook MagSafe / MagSafe 3 chargers *almost* don't exist in sizes other than 6.6 ft? I'd get if only Apple's 2m existed. I'd get if zero 3m cables existed. But it's like exactly one 3m cable exists. Why? It's not even like the connector hasn't been reverse engineered.
