@owlcriticism.bsky.social My summary of five and a half hours of being spared a direct reading of Atlas Shrugged:

I've shared Pongorma in the past here before but I've really got Hylics on the mind right now. It's been helping. Arise, My Creation #hylics #hylics2

There's something really, really special about the whole of Hylics. The setting and the weird little story, and the MUSIC, oh my goodness, no wonder these two oddball games had nested themselves inside my heart so deeply. Why, oh why, does the moon clay game make me cry harder than anything else?

One of the chronic curses I have is that I type & write really fast & can get a lot of words down fast if I focus but that also means I make typos like a SOB. There's typos in my tweet asking for beta readers. There's typos in my texts. There's typos ON THE PAGES OF MY NOTEBOOK IT'S LIKE ANTS HELP

Here's a little pencil-and-paper fan flip animation I made for the @foxes-in-love.bsky.social webcomic! I was listening to this goofy frog song and it made me think of the two lil' foxes. I'm not a trained illustrator or animator, but I'm pretty happy with how it turned out! It was fun to try!

Looking for beta readers for a novelette; the draft is about 9600~9800 words long depending if you count the note at the beginning. It is a “weird fantasy” adventure story about another world made from pieces of our own. The draft focuses on a five of sapient bipedal carpenter bees & one human.

I’m five pages and two thousand words into typing the second draft from out of my notebook and there’s still so many pages to go How much did I write Did I just disassociate, what happened I’m both impressed with myself and a bit scared. Like what if it’s a lot of tripe Click clack, click clack.

The events of this week have really done an amazing job of just making you not give a shit anymore. Go wild, buckaroos. Make some friends, make some cool art, go party like the world’s going to end if you have the opportunity. Just be good to each other & keep your head above the water best you can.

33 years ago today, the Stranger stepped onto the dock of Myst Island for the first time. We can still hear the water splashing against the pilings.

The dock of Myst Island from the original version of the game. A wooden dock ends at a spiral staircase that leads up to giant gears on a hillside. A ship is sunk in the water on the right, and parts of buildings are visible on the left.

Finished the first draft; ignore the words on the cover, they have nothing to do with anything. Odds are it’s gonna be a novelette-as-zine for the first entry, next step is editing & transcription, next draft, etc. I also want to share notes about the world when I have the moment to sit down for it.

I've resolved to tell my big story project, the one that has been dogging me across many iterations for nearly a decade now, as independent free publications for the time being. Have to garner attention and share my worlds with other people who want to read them, right? Some zines forthcoming, then!

Was on the MAGFest registration page last night. Chose NOT to panic buy my ticket because everyone I knew just did not expect them to sell out like that. If I had just been clueless that would've been one thing, but the fact that I COULD have gotten one in time & I didn't...it really hurts, man.

Nearly two years ago I saw Red Vox live at my first MAGFest; didn't even know Vinny was part of a band. Over time, I found myself watching less & less YouTube, playing few video games, basically doing nothing but reading & writing. But this music has worked its way into my craw so spectacularly.

I think that the "Ideal" would be to create a story, or perhaps within that story a set of prose, that prompts the reader to close the cover & stare off into space, their eyes welling not from any particular emotion but from the complete comprehension of what they've read. If you can do that, (1/2)

I've only been tacitly aware of everything surrounding TADC, but all that I have learned just just makes it an object lesson in why having something you create become a phenomenon is a major league nightmare. I deeply admire Goose's ability to say her full dissatisfaction and exhaustion with it all.
