Looking for beta readers for a novelette; the draft is about 9600~9800 words long depending if you count the note at the beginning. It is a “weird fantasy” adventure story about another world made from pieces of our own. The draft focuses on a five of sapient bipedal carpenter bees & one human.

In retrospect, I think he was using me to write content to feed into chatGPT or some other LLM back when those were still being built up, 2022ish, I think? I only cottoned onto what happened years later and I felt so dirty. Never going to back to Upwork, haven’t taken a gig since.

One of my first attempts at finding writing work was to take gigs on upwork. Guy paid me fifty bucks to write multiple thousand word articles about chatGPT and Duolingo with a focus on certain subjects and keywords. This was back before AI was a big name news subject.

From theirs to start, for sure, out of the plains and into the cities to see the scope of the world unfold before the reader at the same time it does them. Of course, there are things like the omni-resource everything is made from and my “magic” system I’m trying to figure out how to lay out plain.

Present story being written starting either novelette focuses on a nomad tribe of insectoids (carpenter bee people) & their lone human adoptee. Story proceeds from an incident of outside aggression upon the tribe as shown in the novelette, leading to larger happenings. That’s it put simply & quick.

In lieu of a police force or military, everything of that is done by mercenary forces. The cities are run by objectivist oligarchies, and only three of the five races have major power representation. Naturally, with mercenaries as the main arbiters of force, things aren’t pleasant.

Something I’ve taken interest to recently is that with music specifically, tracks themselves are subject to copyright, as are lyrics, but the NAMES of songs are not. You could sprinkle those into your writing as much as you wanted, no permissions necessary. Kind of difficult for videos, though.
