Elephant mosquitoes! 💙 You big beautiful leggy things. Haven't gotten a chance to shoot them in a long time. (elephant mosquitoes don't bite, and their larvae prey on the larvae of other mosquitoes. Good boys, all of them)

I've sometimes seen *terribly* bald Eurasian Magpies around, I always thought they must have been mobbed by other birds! Thankfully it just seems to be this case.

A well-known common name for this animal is a Least Weasel (Mustela nivalis). We think it's the most weasel one could be.

werner herzog on AI filmmaking (from here www.indiewire.com/features/int...)
Q: A couple years ago at IDFA, I saw this movie "About a Hero," which is this partly Al-generated hybrid documentary that tries to recreate the atmosphere of your films.

A: The intention of this young filmmaker was never to remake any [of my films], but making something in the spirit. And I immediately said, "You will fail. It is such a stupid idea. It's phenomenally, abysmally stupid. I will not take part in it." He wanted me to explain things and have my voice in it.
I said, "You are alone. There's such a thing as free speech, which I respect. So go ahead and fail." And it is a failure, period.
It's so standardized that Al can step in because there's not real storytelling. It's mimicry of something that has happened before. And I welcome Al to replace all the idiots who are into nothing but repeating, repeating, repeating until it's ad nauseam.
When it's ad nauseam, please, please, please let Al step in and do the job.

Fireflies and Penstemon digitalis, 2026 This is a real photo taken in my yard, made with many stacked 4-second exposures. In all, this photo represents about 8-10 minutes worth of firefly flashes in a small area. Several species are represented here.
A real photograph made of many stacked exposures of fireflies at night. In the foreground are white-blooming native penstemon flowers, with out of focus purple blue flag irises in the background. Hundreds of firefly flashes in hues from greenish yellow to orange are streaked across the photo.

Two panel comic. Panel 1: a wraith with a long scythe floats over a reflective pool on a surreal, desolate landscape with many moons. There are two guys in sunglasses looking at him blankly. The wraith solemnly says to the guys, “welcome… to the edge of eternity.” Panel 2: one of the guys is taking a photo on his phone of the other guy, who is smiling and posed in front of the landscape, giving a chill “hang loose” 🤙 hand signal. Both of the dudes are wearing fanny packs and the one posing for the picture is wearing a Messi Argentina jersey. The wraith, looking mildly annoyed, says, “stop that.”

These plants also harvest dew, which condenses out of moist air. Edges and hairs make especially good foci for condensation as they radiate heat & cool faster. This species is from Namaqualand, in southern Africa. 📷: Dipcadi crispum Karel du Toit CCBYNC4 #Asparagaceae #fog #Botany 🌾🧪🌱

There's a youtuber that handles bugs, spiders, even large centipedes, and doesn't even seem to mind being bitten despite how much that could hurt. I've realized most creatures just want to do their thing, and ignore or actively avoid humans, very few will actively bother us.

I've only in recent years discovered how cool jumping spiders are, and an appreciation for wolf spiders and others with two central eyes that make it easier to empathize them with. I'm more worried of accidentally injuring, crushing, most will just avoid or ignore humans. Exposure therapy does help.
