BREAKING: DOJ goes to SCOTUS trying to stop a district court order that USDA pay out full SNAP benefits this month. The First Circuit denied an administrative stay, but has not yet ruled on the stay request. And, CNN reported that USDA is already processing payments. DOJ went to SCOTUS anyway.

Judge Boasberg has the tools he needs to prosecute Trump officials for criminal contempt and punish them if they’re found guilty. He sure sounds prepared to use them. slate.com/news-and-pol...

Should the government refuse this offer, Boasberg will "proceed to identify the individual(s) responsible" for defying his orders, through "live witness testimony" if necessary.
He will then ask the Department of Justice to appoint a prosecutor; if the DOJ refuses, he noted pointedly, federal law empowers him to appoint a private attorney to prosecute the defendants for contempt instead, as the
"interest of justice" requires. If Boasberg orders the defendants arrested and jailed, federal marshals are responsible for carrying out the task. But if the Justice Department instructs marshals to stand down, Boasberg can appoint other law enforcement officers, including state police, to seize and detain the federal officials who defied him.
