I'm still processing the passing of Bob Davenport. I used to see him fairly regularly at the old Musical Traditions club in London. An extraordinary and compelling singer--the size, shape and impact of a hammer--perhaps because he was also a complicated and sometimes difficult person.

Years ago I lent a regularly touring folk punk band an accordion to try out for a bit. No case for it, so it lived in an old postman's delivery bag. They rang me up: they'd been burgled, took the accordion out of the bag, left it behind, used the bag to steal their VHS recorder :-)

A digital colour rework of a linocut illustration from my #folksongfebruary series, ‘False Knight on the Road’. The traditional folk song plays out like a proto rap battle between a precocious immovable child and the devil disguised as a knight.
An illustrated linocut print of a knight on a horse in front of a boy holding a book, digitally coloured. The illustration is on top of a photograph of a path in some woods. Lyrics to the folk song are written underneath.
