#jazzsky Les McCann Ltd., Plays the Shampoo at the Village Gate, Pacific Jazz, 1963. McCann, p; Herbie Lewis, b; Ron Jefferson, d.
LP cover. I don't think this is a blue tinted black and white photo; I think it's a color photo with blue light shining on the face of a Black man (McCann), looking downward in concentration, presumably at a piano keyboard.

#jazzsky Johnny "Hammond" Smith, On Danse a Harlem 1, Bel-Air, 1962 [French issue of All Soul, Prestige New Jazz, 1959. Smith, org; Thornel Schwartz, g; George Tucker, b; Leo Stevens, d. An oddity! It's unusual for French releases of Prestige LPs to have different titles.
LP cover. The top third is blue with a large white numeral one, and the artist, title, and song titles in black. The bottom two thirds is a photo of three modern dancers, two women and one man, dancing on a floor with a crowd of viewers sitting cross legged on the same floor (no stage). The production looks very, very French. One doubts that they are dancing to the music on this record!

LP cover. Red tinted photo of two Black men (Smith in the middle, Schwartz on the left, both from behind) hitting a high point in their performance. Smith has his mouth open with the intensity, looking to the right; he is wearing a spectacular striped jacket. Schwartz is in a check, face not visible. The rest of the scene is pitch dark in the nightclub. A truly great jazz photo.

satin ribbons

After unexpectedly winning her first blue ribbon for a sewn cape in 1981, Carol St. Clair Johnson developed an enduring love for the New Mexico State Fair. The quilt Fair New Mexico-41 Fair Years incorporates more than six hundred of the ribbons she won at the fair every subsequent year except 2020 (when the fair was canceled because of the COVID-19 pandemic). Johnson earned ribbons for needlework, knitting, crochet, pies, cookies, cakes, canning, jewelry, flowers, vegetables, and potted plants. The title of the quilt is a reference to the state song, and the design places the state's Zia sun symbol at the center. The quilt earned Johnson yet another ribbon: Best in Category (miscellaneous quilt) at the 2023 New Mexico State Fair.

My gosh. Fetterman pretended to be sick to avoid meeting three paralyzed veterans from rural PA…and then went to do a Fox interview on Israel. He agreed to meet a lawmaker who drove from PA to talk about homeless and working people…and then bailed & met pro-Israel Bruce Pearl.
One morning in June, three paralyzed military veterans in wheelchairs from rural Pennsylvania arrived at the office of Sen. John Fetterman for a long-awaited meeting to discuss legislation that would improve their care.
Fetterman's staff greeted them with bad news: The Pennsylvania Democrat had to cancel. He'd told his staff he may have eaten something bad and wasn't feeling well, according to people familiar with the matter.
Less than an hour after his staffers met with the veterans in his place, Fetterman walked into his office, showing no signs of illness. He had an appointment he didn't want to miss, he told staff: an interview on Fox News to discuss Israel and the war in Iran."He was available. He just chose not to meet with us," Williams said.
Even when Fetterman does agree to meetings, he often cancels, according to former staffers.
Also last April, Fetterman agreed to take a meeting with another state lawmaker, Liz Hanbidge, who drove down from Pennsylvania to introduce herself, and to discuss programs that help the homeless and working poor in her county. But when Hanbidge arrived, according to staffers who were present, Fetterman claimed he hadn't agreed to the meeting. The aides spent more than an hour pleading with him to talk to her; staffers eventually met with Hanbidge in his place.
Fetterman did take another meeting that day-with Bruce Pearl, the former college basketball coach and Israel advocate. The pair discussed legislation that would affect college sports, and Pearl thanked Fetterman for his stance on Israel, Pearl said in an interview.

LP cover. A photo of a Black man (Gordon), who is facing three quarters to his right but has his head turned three quarters to the left. He's holding his saxophone. What makes this interesting is that it is printed three times, each offset by about a half inch, each a different color - dark blue, then medium blue, then light blue; and each is heavily posterized (color reduced). You could do this in Photoshop today in a minute, but it must have taken some work in 1970.
