I loved the guy in the restaurant trying to buy something who was repeatedly shouting his full credit card number, expiration, and CCV. I was sorely tempted to shout back "wait, 693?"

#jazzsky Rusty Bryant, Fire Eater, Prestige, 1971 [this is the 2017 Jazz Dispensary reissue]. Bryant, ts; Bill Mason or Leon Spencer Jr., org; Wilbert Longmire, g; Idris Muhammad, d. Soul-jazz monster. None more soul-jazz.
LP cover. Blood red pencil drawing of a wild squiggly saxophone, possibly two, being played by five or six wild squiggly hands, with other instruments in view -- is that a guitar? Please say it's a guitar. Some parts are a metallic blue but red absolutely dominates.

The government *still* isn’t tracking how often immigration agents detain U.S. citizens. We are. 500+ Americans have been handcuffed, held at gunpoint or held against their will in Trump’s second term. Our tally is almost certainly an undercount. THREAD (content warning: violence) ⬇️

Artist: Roz Chast from The New Yorker
The image shows a black-and-white cartoon titled "The Mind-Body Problem" drawn by Roz Chast for The New Yorker.
It depicts a person slouching on a couch who says "No" in a speech bubble while their mind or head, leaning back, says "Get up."

#jazzsky Wynton Kelly, s/t [aka Whisper Not], Riverside, 1958 [this is a 1974 Japanese reissue, on Milestone for some reason]. Kelly, p; Kenny Burrell, g; Paul Chambers, b; Philly Joe Jones, d.
LP cover. On a bright blue field, a collage of three photos of a Black man (Kelly) sitting on a ladder. The larger center photo has him straddling the ladder, one leg extended, the other perched on a high step. He's holding a cigarette, and wearing a black suit over a grey shirt with a contrasting white collar, and a white pocket handkerchief in his breast pocket. The other smaller photos are from the same session, with white backgrounds, sitting on the top step of the ladder, facing first left and then right. He's wearing a stingy brim hat in all three photos.

My favorite Beatle, Billy Preston, appeared on The Nat 'King' Cole Show in 1957, long before any TV footage of the Fabs! The show was short-lived because ad agencies refused to sponsor a Black star, thanks to Jim Crow in the south.

#jazzsky Les McCann Ltd., Plays the Shampoo at the Village Gate, Pacific Jazz, 1963. McCann, p; Herbie Lewis, b; Ron Jefferson, d.
LP cover. I don't think this is a blue tinted black and white photo; I think it's a color photo with blue light shining on the face of a Black man (McCann), looking downward in concentration, presumably at a piano keyboard.

#jazzsky Johnny "Hammond" Smith, On Danse a Harlem 1, Bel-Air, 1962 [French issue of All Soul, Prestige New Jazz, 1959. Smith, org; Thornel Schwartz, g; George Tucker, b; Leo Stevens, d. An oddity! It's unusual for French releases of Prestige LPs to have different titles.
LP cover. The top third is blue with a large white numeral one, and the artist, title, and song titles in black. The bottom two thirds is a photo of three modern dancers, two women and one man, dancing on a floor with a crowd of viewers sitting cross legged on the same floor (no stage). The production looks very, very French. One doubts that they are dancing to the music on this record!
