I'm not saying these plans aren't good, quite the opposite. Just those sorts of good standards appear to be optional. I'm seeing many hundreds of acres that look nothing like the brochures in reality.

This is great, and these sorts of ideas should be adopted into all solar park designs. But these large-scale sites in UK are exempt from local planning, nationally significant infrastructure projects. Offshore outsourced companies are not following any such guidelines for maximum profit.

Small-scale cottage industries tend to have a good mix of habitats. But we need to prevent these industrial scale sites from making deserts. It only creates more anti-solar nimbys. If you walked through one, you'd be shocked. They just need minimum standards enforcing.

It doesn't need to be a solar desert. If the councils enforce good standards, then others will be more likely to accept new developments. The current examples of panel crammed wastelands only serve as deterrent scare stories for other communities.

Am surprised by the lack of nuance in some of these comments. I'm pro-solar, but it needs to be done properly. Certain US exploitative suppliers, once given weak planning permission, will simply pave over vast swathes of land with minimal gaps for maximum profit.

That's definitely my experience. For decades, I've lived and travelled around the biggest cities of the UK. I appreciate my gender allows me to walk anywhere without much thought, but only very rarely encountered aggression and always drunken "patriot" types. London's the safest I've ever seen it.

Sometimes, I think the restricting access of "the unwashed" is the point. If everyone has access to the VIP area, no one is a VIP. The Rees-Mogs of the land have even more advantage over the plebs. Having a huge wide-screen TV 30 years ago made people feel rich. Not so much now they're ubiquitous.

I have a forgiving nature and would be inclined to make allowances for this old clip, taken from when many people didn't know any better. However, a "poor servant" analogy would have been more fitting to the Brexit we got.

Maybe that's also part of the problem. There are people working for Tufton St junk tanks that are paid to lobby the BBC all day, every day like this. But you're right, we gotta try.

Surely, if this guy is so loaded, Khan's traffic reductions would benefit him. He can easily pay congestion charge, parking, ulez, tolls without thinking and bowl about town much easier on clear roads.

They do it because they think management want it (they don't). Management then feel obliged to hold more pointless meetings because, democracy.

Same group effect. Corporate retros for improved ways of working. Time and again colleagues propose and support having more meetings, even though it's the last thing anyone wants.

A new low for GB 'news'. How is a UK TV channel able to broadcast such dangerous insanity? Remember today's insanity is tomorrow's radicalised mainstream.

You forget, there's just as much chance of the UK electing a far-right government of griffters with Reform. At least with the checks and balances of the EU, there is more to prevent these disaterists running amok, Trump style.

will say it again: the most effective way to curb far right agitators like Lowe, "Tommo" et. al. would be to stop their ability to earn money for it from social media or live streaming. So much of it is grifting for revenue, not attention.

Fear is the product, not the consequence. Immigration figures are down significantly, so too are small boat crossings. So why do people believe the opposite? Lies, pumped into people’s feeds, at scale, by malign forces.

I'm not saying we should or shouldn't have a vote on it (this seems like a pattern). We need to adapt to circumstances. Writing a blank cheque on the back of a vague question no one had defined. That's what got us into this Farage shaped hell hole in the first place.

But you can, if you win the election on that manifesto. Do you remember Bozo Johnson and his oven ready deal? It can't get any more damaging than that. Farage: Hold my beer

You appear to be debating a lot of stuff that doesn't exist yet. I see the Lib Dems are promising costly manifesto items paid for by partly going back into the EU. Whether it stands up to scrutiny or not. It outlines a stark fact. Brexit is the reason we can't have nice things.

Phoenix Satya @flyingpangolin.bsky.social · 24/09/2026
Sounds like you're speaking for them. We either find a pathway to a better situation or stay trapped in our isolation hole and keep digging. Reform and their ilk will have us give up more rights after first emptying our pockets.

Staunch 'rejoiner' - sounds like a doctrine driven description. UK just needs negotiation to get to a sweet spot in trade, economic, and political union from this current bin fire. We'll obviously never get back to our "best deal in the world" #1 possport.
