Back at it again with the Lodev DDA (lodev.org/cgtutor/rayc...) ray casting experiments. This is running in Real Mode x86-16, with VGA using the tweaked 320x100 mode for double buffering. With just the minimal interface code for testing, the current EXE is about under 4KB. (Open Watcom C/C++ 1.9)
Black floor, white ceiling. The walls are either a monochromatic gradient, or the VGA palette EGA colors. Looking at a corner with a pillar covering the actual corner.

This is amazing! SimCopter had a great soundtrack by Jerry Martin but the game’s files were highly compressed. So LucasVB got in touch with Mr. Martin and he was able to find most of the original high quality tracks! Awesome to hear “Hangar” in such clarity after 30 years archive.org/details/SimC...

So if I’m getting this right… You need a subscription to access the physical goods store where everything is more expensive then it is elsewhere (that isn’t exclusive to said store… that you won’t know is on said store without a subscription) Sony what are you doing!?

Disc Rot? I run an online game/CD shop. More than 10,000 discs CD/DVD/LD/BD have passed through me. I test each one. I find scratched discs for sure. And moldy discs in cases that also have moldy manuals. But a pristine case with a “rotted” disc? Twice. 2 times in the 15 years I have sold games.

thinking about this comments i got... i actually have exactly one thing to say about moon child: it's cheerful and optimistic in a way that i think everyone yearns for right now. that's the end of this video essay about moon child thanks for watching
three youtube comments and a reply from the author. they read as follows:
from niniv: Would love to see you do a video on current bluesky sensation Moon Child, since the rave-like OST and psychedelic visuals are getting a lot of people obsessed over it, and the devs have made the source files available to the world as a result. Somebody was even able to reverse engineer the stems to the AMIGA version title demo which is the song that launched the game's current popularity.
from furious poultry: listen to this guy do that
from eunaoseibrother467: yes

and the reply from GST Channel:
I do adore Moon Child and it's resurgence but I don't think I have anything new to say about it

One of the things I love about retro games as a hobby is that there's always more and it's always weirder. Nobody can possibly hold the entirety of the topic in their head and so you're always finding out about some strange game that you've never heard of.

Remaster of Broken Sword 2 is being crowdfunded right now, and this time Revolution are taking a no-AI approach: www.kickstarter.com/projects/rev...
This game has over 55,000 unique frames of animation, and is created by a team of talented classical animators who have redrawn and reanimated this game frame by frame. Adding subtle, context-sensitive characterisation and human expressions is something that AI can't do, and never will be able to do.

During the development of Broken Sword - Shadow of the Templars: Reforged we tried to integrate our own internal tool trained on art produced by ourselves. In the end it was a lot of work that could have frankly been spent directly on the game, so that's what we're doing this time around!

No AI, just humans ❤︎

Hey if you still have an Angelfire or Tripod site, or if you like one, now is the time to back it up, like, urgently
Wikipedia snippet:

On March 6, 2026, Lycos announced that their services, specifically Angelfire and Tripod, were experiencing temporary outages in a note on their frontpage.[6] Later that day, the message was updated to say "To our users of Angelfire and Tripod. We apologize for the service interruptions. Unfortunately we will be shutting down in the next 30 days. Please move your hosting to another host as soon as possible."[7] The message was removed from the homepage shortly after, without further official statement from the company.[8]

Note to self: When writing a MIDI ISR sound driver, maybe don't assume that 0-delay events mean 1-timer tick. Otherwise, it will make your song sound... wonky.
