Here's a funny thing about the right to vote: it wasn't won by voting.
Two suffragists in period dress, ceremonially putting ballots into a ballot box. The background has been replaced with an elaborate collage of 19th C printing-press parts. The ballots are glowing with radiant spikes. The face of the ballot box has been replaced with an Nvidia Vera Lynn GPU.

Cotton Mather, the Salem and Boston witch hunter ideologue, became later in life a proponent of smallpox inoculation (after loosing his wife and two children to measles) against an opposition of other Puritan leaders and physicians.

For cynics, this is all a shuck, a scare-story to convince the rubes that their modestly useful utility software is really a nascent "superintelligence" and thus capable of replacing all their workers, which means they should fire all those workers and start sending their salaries to AI companies.

to be more specific I should say revenues collected by government, but the screenshot says it. Bottom line the public pays out and suffers more than it collects from this industry effectively debunking the claim we need fossil fuels to counter US trade aggression.

Yes, this is a plug. Last month, I started using "incogni" to wipe my data from online data brokers, since this is becoming a prevalent security issue. So far, I'm pretty impressed. If you want to try it, use this code and we both get a discount: incogni.cello.so/6kB4DRHAfU7

I read a beautiful poem today. Antidotes to Fear of Death Rebecca Elson
A poem in white lettering on a starry sky background.

Sometimes as an antidote
To fear of death,
I eat the stars.

Those nights, lying on my back,
I suck them from the quenching dark
Til they are all, all inside me,
Pepper hot and sharp.

Sometimes, instead, I stir myself
Into a universe still young,
Still warm as blood:

No outer space, just space,
The light of all the not yet stars
Drifting like a bright mist,
And all of us, and everything
Already there
But unconstrained by form.

And sometimes it’s enough
To lie down here on earth
Beside our long ancestral bones:

To walk across the cobble fields
Of our discarded skulls,
Each like a treasure, like a chrysalis,
Thinking: Whatever left these husks
Flew off on bright wings.

So, if the heat, the floods, the endless wars, the precarity is awakening something that might feel like panic, the action is less to invent a new solution than it is to soften your gaze, or lengthen it. Shift your image of solution into a way, not a what, and find your way to the way.

And if Canada builds its own local AI to sub in for Chatgpt, Claude and Grok, it'll *lose tens, if not hundreds of billions of dollars*. Worst of all, a national AI strategy does nothing - not a solitary thing - to protect Canada from Trump shutting down its ministries, firms, or tractors. 32/

I'e long wondered what goes on at that newspaper to so reliably produce these genteel surrenders to right-wing talking points and so often distorts the realities in ways that pander to racists, misogynists, etc. Sometimes as contrarianism, or spiciness, or a one-sided pretense of bothsiderism.
