Get yourself a brother who will give you his primo place in line for a steam frame
A box for a steam frame sits open on a small desk (it takes up the whole desk) with the steam frame still packed inside. The two controllers are slotted vertically behind the frame itself, which is a black VR headset with a soft strap and a battery built into the piece that sits at the back of the head

"no dogpiling" isn't a rule. And it's not in Bsky's community standards. So a post saying "we'll ban you for dogpiling" without defining dogpiling confuses more than it clarifies, and surpresses rather than faciliting productive discussion. What IS in Bsky's community standards is this:
Accounts that engage in extreme or persistent toxic or disruptive behavior may face restrictions or removal. This includes accounts with a high number or proportion of:
A. Extreme or repeated personal attacks, such as insults or ad hominem attacks
B. Posts or responses made primarily to anger, provoke, or belittle instead of to contribute criticism or a genuine opinion
C. The use of hostile or inflammatory language clearly intended to create or contribute to an unwelcoming environment

Shout out to @montgomeryparks.bsky.social for having wheelchairs available at Brookside. My whole soul needed to wander around in nature this morning, and being able to borrow a chair made that possible
Concentric rings of silvery water ripple out from beneath the steel fountain installation called "screen" under the shade of auburn-barked cypress trees in the center of the Brookside rose garden. In the background, dappled sunlight bathes the rose bushes and brick paths in yellow light.

The face of a Greyhound who DESERVED a second dental treat and resents the accusation that she in any way misrepresented the facts to acquire one Just because Spouse was moved by her pleas for Second Treat doesn't mean she lied about First Treat; how dare I make such unfounded accusations
A black Greyhound with a purple collar lies on a light colored dog bed. Her tag reads "Tali." She is looking away and refusing to participate in this mugshot because the allegations against her are clearly without merit and it is beneath her dignity to acknowledge them

And yes the #daggerheart compatible fear tracker on top also works. It will eventually have edge lit rods that it will light up.

Is the wiring a rat's nest? Yes. Does it light up and cycle slowly through the color wheel? Also yes.
A basswood mockup of a GM screen sits on a workbench in the middle of a tangle of parts and tools. Its frosted acrylic panels still have their protective paper (because this is a mockup), but through the paper, they're glowing purple. The center panel has its "frame" pieces, which hide the edges of the lights. The gaps between the screen panels and towers are very wide because I need to adjust the wiring so they'll close properly.Another shot of the same basswood plywood mockup, but this time the panels are teal

A lot of little changes to the tower design necessitated remaking it from scratch (well, "scratch" and as always, a lot of help from boxes .py) Still a few small changes to make but then it will be time to light this bad but up.
Two laser cut towers with removable fronts sit on a blue desk mat. The one on the left is a dice rolling tower with a drawer under the catch tray at the bottom. The one on the right is a straight column. Two laser cut towers with removable fronts sit open on a blue desk mat, with their fronts standing up beside the main tower bodies. On the left, the dice tower's inner bumpers are visible with the front lid off. The drawer at the bottom has been removed and sits on the desk mat in front of everything. On the right, the electronics tower is a simple column with the front section removed. It will house the microcontroller for the finished project.A top view of two towers. Last night's progress was a test print of the electronics tower. I was planning to have it match the dice tower, but with the rail on the dice tower, that doesn't really work
Two ~12" tall round towers laser cut from birch plywood. They are shaped like boots with ~2" rounded feet at the bottom. The left one is a dice tower with a tray on top of its foot, surrounded by a 1" high rail. The right is the electronics tower, and the foot appears to be an inch shorter because it doesn't have a railing. The feet are meant to take drawers; the left tower has a draft of the drawer in place.

I could also use an abacus style, but because I don't know how to be normal I am instead wiring up a microcontroller to individually addressable LEDs in a custom made screen featuring edge lit acrylic. It totally counts as game prep.
Handwritten notes and diagrams for a GM screen build. Writing is largely chicken scratch, but it's three screens with edge lit acrylic panels. There's a dice tower on one side of the center screen and an electronics tower on the other, which will hold the microcontroller for the lights. The drawing at the bottom is a cross section of the frames that will hold the acrylic panels and lights. The fear tracker is at the top of the center panel

🎵 this was a triumph 🎵 🎵 I'm making a note here: 🎵 🎵 Success (with hope) 🎵 V2 of the tower for my #Daggerheart GM screen. The dice tower doesn't really need to open, but the electronics tower that will hold the microcontroller for the fear tracker will need to, so I tested the lid plan.
A laser cut dice tower sits on a blue desk mat. It's shaped a bit like a boot, with a twelve inch tall round tower over an oval rolling tray with a drawer underneath. The drawer is partially open, showing two sets of metal polyhedral dice in copper and black. The D12s have been rolled and are sitting in the rolling tray: 12 (copper) and 9 (black) for a total of 21 with hope. The same laser cut dice tower with the same dice in the tray and drawer, but this time the front of the tower is canted open, showing the bumpers inside. The entire front of the tower above the rolling tray is removable.A third look at the dice tower, this time with the front cover completely removed and sitting to one side. It attaches to the main tower using magnets, which are currently taped in place because this is a mockup and I want to reuse the magnets on the final tower.

Tonight was a night for soldering while babysitting the laser cutter. Got a header attached to a cool rotary dial button thing so it's ready to connect up to my raspberry pi. Also printed a rough draft of a dice tower. Next up: dice tower edits to connect it to GM screen panels
A prototype dice tower laser cut from 3mm plywood sits in a blue desk mat in front of some ink bottles. The raised base sticks out like a foot with room for a drawer underneath. Two twelve sided dice in the rolling tray are both on three, making it a critical success.

Update: the white topstitching wasn't working for me. Picked it out and replaced it with black. I think it works better, and not just because my topstitching is dodgy.
A black pouch with a red brass zipper sits on a blue desk pad. Seven pens are slotted into pen loops made of a colorful print of quill pens. I couldn't find an A5 pen sleeve that had the features I wanted, so I'm prototyping my own version. I made the pouch removable separately from the sleeve (via magnetic snaps) to make it easier to remove and reattach when I'm using the notebook.

My jacket is getting long in the tooth and it's time for an update. What do we think? Try to color match some red bias tape? Go for a darker red? Contrasting color like yellow or black? Find a coordinating plaid? (The buttons and belt buckle are a brown faux tortoiseshell)

QR codes encode text. They are most often used to encode URLs, but they don't have to. They can just encode plain ol' fashioned text. And they're decoded locally on your device. There's no need for a server call to decode a QR code. Try it out: put your phone in airplane mode, then scan this.
A QR Code that encodes the plain text "If we shadows have offended, think but this and all is mended: that you just scanned a QR code containing nothing but plain text."

Psst. Jewelry-making pals. I've got some market intel you might be able to use. This is a cane strap. It's a common functional attachment that allows a cane user to drop their cane without it falling to the ground, which is useful for temporary use of that hand, or if they don't have a great grip.
A hand holds up a lovely sparkling indigo cane that color-shifts between purple and blue. Its stylish derby handle and eye catching color attract regular compliments.

The cane has two attachments: one is a small wing-shaped pair of hooks for hanging the cane on chairs and tables. It's functional and unassuming.

Above that, a black plastic clip buckle attaches the cane to a wide black elastic strap to secure it to the bearer's wrist. The strap is not aesthetically pleasing.

I don't know EXACTLY who needs to hear this but I know it's at least some folks who do daily planners: your planner doesn't need to be fancy! It doesn't need fancy stencils, multicolor artwork, stickers, or washi tape. All your planner actually needs to do is work for you.
My dot grid journal open to this week's planner spread. Some items are partially blacked out for privacy.

The top of the left-hand page is the week section. It has a list of high-level todos for the week: things like "finish gift wrapping" and "draft short story." To the right of that is a plain habit tracker that's just the dates of the week across the top and 3 habits listed on the lines underneath, with Xs marked in the dot grid squares where the dates and habits intersect.

Underneath is a "goals" section with the item "log 5x," because I'm trying to regain consistency in my planner use. (It's totally different from the habit tracker because reasons).

Below the weekly section is a straight line drawn with the ruler I use as a bookmark, A section labeled "21st," then a list of tasks for yesterday, mostly checked off.

Another straight line appears above today's section, marked "22nd," followed by today's tasks. Tasks with an X next to them are done; tasks with a dot aren't done yet.

All of this is in my normal handwriting. There's no calligraphy, drawings, or stickers. The layout is neat, but plain.

The fancy ruler I got to do cool fancy notebook spreads but which I actually use only as a bookmark and straightedge is sitting across the bottom of the page. On the right-hand blank page is a notebook sleeve with 4 pens (pilot vanishing points) to help hold the notebook open. Each section is in its own color because I have four different pens and I feel like it but you can do the same thing with a single pen or pencil; the colors are the only decorative element.
