I think it will last. It's been lasting for years already, and even reinforcing with/in spite of the absence of new data. Many journalists don't care about facts, they want a story instead, and lab leaks (because there isn't a single lab leak story) bring many more clicks than a boring zoonosis.

Which one do you mean? "Contradictory results" is different, isn't it? www.biorxiv.org/submit-a-man...
ARTICLE CATEGORIES

Articles in bioRxiv are categorized as New Results, Confirmatory Results, or Contradictory Results. Please select the category that best describes your findings.

New Results is most appropriate for articles that describe an advance in a field.
Confirmatory Results should be selected if the findings largely replicate and confirm previously published work.
Contradictory Results should be selected if the studies largely replicate experimental approaches used in previously published work but the results contradict and/or do not support it.

... but I feel even this would be unpopular due to the probabilistic nature of those tools. I worry we'll take the alternative route of having AI triage AI-generated proposals, and then we'll be in Absurdistan: we might as well directly give the grant to whoever has the latest version of Claude.

Not sure how the community will be consulted, but if so this will be really critical and time to be vocal...delegating our peer judgement (admittedly imperfect) to LLM feels like removing the cornerstone of how science works. If this is the way it goes, I'd rather become a teacher or bake bread🤷‍♂️

A roughly 20-meter wall dating from the Gallo-Roman period was discovered in Paris this summer beneath a hotel on the Ile de la Cité, a stone's throw from Notre Dame Cathedral in the heart of the City of Light. The stone-and-wood find is thought to be a fragment of the ramparts of Lutetia – the ancient name for Paris – built by the Gallic Parisii tribe which lived along the river Seine in the Iron Age.
