SUMMER SONS by Lee Mandelo is completely transfixing so far. Evocative Appalachia/deep south summer vibe. Characters are all in pain or seeking to cause it somehow. The haunting/ghost parts are all completely ugly and bizarre, nothing romantic or clean. It's just a bruising read and I like that.

Yeah - I find I get along with a lot of people who others find standoffish or something. You really just have to use some bare minimum of understanding their tone or intentions, and it eliminates like 80% or more of small conflicts like that.

basically taking the whole social miasma of the times, poverty, anger, suspicion, and then tacking on classic pulp monsters and tropes at the end. It's very modern and a very "comedy writer" way of doing horror and he just knocks it out of the park man.

It's not beating you over the head with allegories, it's got a lot of dimensions - but this is a movie about the continuing erosion of life as everything's turned into ratings and viewer numbers. Which is pretty prescient for how we got where we are politically

PRIMETIME - brutal and eye-catching. Completely compelling. Pattinson and Skyler Gisondo have rarely been this good. I could've sworn I knew Merrit Wever from somewhere but I don't think so actually. Whole thing is directed like a horror film, but a really stylish one, dramatic, all gonzo.

BUDDY was good... you've seen the whole "childhood thing turned dark, ooh" gimmick before but this was a good movie no matter what. Solid B-horror. Visually kooky and never gets dull. Cristin Milioti elevates everything she's in.
