Streaming apps like Spotify are popular because more than listening, we like to be listened to. When you listen to a tape, it’s one sided. You are listening into the void. But Spotify listens back, tracking your taste, your location, your habits. It’s a music format that thinks we are special.

Even when you are listening to music you don’t really like, in a few years’ time you could be listening to music you absolutely hate and thinking back “Gosh I wish I was listening to that music I only didn’t like. It was actually pretty good!” So make sure you make the most of every music moment.

The only reason we have to put up with AI music is because Daft Punk and Kraftwerk normalized robot songs. If they’d dressed up as, I don’t know, snakes instead, we’d now be be dealing with snake music, which, to be fair, would probably be even worse for musicians.
