I don't even understand the implications of that difference, but saying its "privately owner" (by the government) is such a weird thing to argue. Also lmao at "island communities paid the price" the only island community that pays any meaningful amount of the price is Victoria (and maybe Nanaimo)

The BC NDP are promising a tax increase on the highest-income earners and to introduce a new bracket on incomes over $1M, asking BC’s wealthy to “pitch in a bit more.” The BC Conservatives say this plan would drive doctors out of the province at a time when they are most needed. Our analysis:

Idk but whenever referendums happen, FairVote and the other advocate groups have just failed to run a pro-reform campaign.

BC has already high taxes on the rich; on their income and on property and luxury products. What taxes on the rich has the NDP cut?

- New unsold condo tax and increasing the speculation and vacancy tax (COPE idea btw) - Price caps on gas and essential groceries - Banning surveillance pricing - Increasing taxes on the wealthy (see below) So far! These are all progressive traditional NDP policies!🍊 www.bcndp.ca/releases/bui...

To build B.C. strong, Eby will ask the wealthy to pitch in a bit more
Eby's plan will fund stronger healthcare for everyone by asking top income earners to contribute fair share – 96% pay nothing more

The current conservative leader had the chance to remove extremist candidates from his team, and he didn't. He's welcoming people with hateful views in his party and he intends to put them in positions of power. That's not just wrong, it's a profound mistake.

one of the exhausting things about modern antisemitism is antisemites insisting that perfectly normal behavior like diaspora nationalism is a sinister conspiracy, and then diaspora nationalists insisting that describing the same perfectly normal behvior is blood libel

Listen: I don’t want to minimize the danger of high e-bike speeds. But if the problem here is that stores sell e-bikes that can drive faster than legal limits, then where’s the story about how literally *every car dealership has been doing the same thing for decades*?!?

Yeah fair to say the city doesn’t do it themselves, but they’re responsible for a lot of the conditions that allow the market to do it.

I don’t really think it’s accurate to say cities aren’t “in charge of” housing, they control some of the most important regulations for housing production, namely zoning and development processes. Some of its provincial, sure, but I’d say mostly municipal.

Because the entirety of the media screamed about how inflation was terrible, so social media screamed about how it was terrible. People credit all of those material improvements to their own personal gumption and blamed Joe Biden for the inflation.

Just yesterday I was going through the former BC Green leaders to see where they have ended up politically (a few in real nasty places). and now today Stuart Parker, one of the worst of their former leaders and now a OneBC guy (because covid and transphobia) just endorsed Andrew Weaver.

So of the 6 former elected leaders they have, only Parker and Weaver have straight up gone to other parties. Sterk really sucks but I don't see her promoting any other parties besides United Russia and Hezbollah. All of the interim leaders except Heatherington seem fine.

Jeremy Valeriote was interim leader in 2025 after Furstenau and before the election of their current leader, Emily Lowan. He won a seat in the 2024 election as well, but didn't run for leader. He's running for re-election in 2026 with the Greens.

Max @fixie.bsky.social · 24/09/2026
Sonia Furstenau won her seat in 2017 in Cowichan Valley alongside Olsen and Weaver, and was leader from 2020 - 2025. She moved to run in Victoria against incumbent BC NDP Minister Grace Lore in 2024 and lose, resigning soon afterwards. She seems to still be a Green.
120
Max @fixie.bsky.social · 24/09/2026
Adam Olsen? Wait really? Again? Oh okay he was interim leader from January-September of 2020. I quite like this guy tbh.
120
Max @fixie.bsky.social · 24/09/2026
Andrew Weaver served as leader from 2015 till 2020. He won the party's first seat in 2013. Weaver left the Green party and seemed to not be on great terms with his successor. He'd go on to endorse a BC Conservative Party candidate in 2024 for his old seat, and is now running for CentreBC.

Max @fixie.bsky.social · 24/09/2026
Adam Olsen served as interim leader from 2013 till 2015 after Sterk resigned. Olsen later went on to win a seat in Saanich North and the Islands from 2017-2024. He has a regular spot on a CBC panel show for Island politics. He remains a Green, and is fairly normal.

Max @fixie.bsky.social · 24/09/2026
Jane Sterk led them from 07 till 2013. Now she posts links to (often antisemitic) youtube videos about Israel and pro-Russia videos re: Ukraine to her facebook several times a day from people like Laith Marouf and Dimitri Lascaris. All have zero likes. Sad boomer vibes. She's the worst one here.

Max @fixie.bsky.social · 24/09/2026
Christopher Ian Bennett was the interim leader after Carr, and was only leader for about a year for 2006-2007 before a leadership race was held. In 2008 he joined the BC Liberals. He really doesn't post about politics anymore from what I see, but quit twitter in anger at Musk in 2022.

Max @fixie.bsky.social · 24/09/2026
Adriane Carr again led the BC Greens from 2000-2006. She then got involved in the federal Green Party, and then the Vancouver Green party where she sat as a city councillor for 2011-2025. As said before, she seems to still be a Green. She's only one year out of office though, so give it time.
130
Max @fixie.bsky.social · 24/09/2026
Tom Hetherington was an interim leader after Parker in 2000. He still is involved with environmental activism and was at a protest earlier this year against ICE. He may have changed his name to Tom Tillicum? He's been involved in activism in Canada and the UK.

Max @fixie.bsky.social · 24/09/2026
Stuart Parker led the Greens from 93-2000. He was 21 years old when he became leader. He was removed by members. He was OntarioNDP in the early 00s, but was expelled because he's a transphobe. By '24 he was with the BCCons.. Now he has a substack where he gets mad about trans people and vaccines.

Max @fixie.bsky.social · 24/09/2026
Okay let's do a roundup: Adriane Carr was the party's first leader for 1983-1985, after which the position was abolished, and the party had no formal leader till 1993, instead having 3 spokespeople. Carr will return though!
