Been thinking about when my 100+ law school crim class covered sex crimes and dozens of men spent the hour arguing with the professor bc they believed the US code definition of rape was unfair. That day, the handful of women in the class realized just how many of our classmates had raped someone.

It's not enough for boomers to permanently infantalize/parentify their children. They must also consume their children's children as property because they are unable to do anything on their own (but this is mainly because *they*, the boomers, need our full attention and care)

My biggest regret from my college experience is how divorced it was from the real world (both practically but also intellectually)

The Academy is the educational experience I wish I had.

In 1984, the educational psychologist Benjamin Bloom published a paper about how the average student who received one-on-one tutoring focused on mastery techniques performed better than 98% of the control group. For generations, this was viewed as unrealistic to implement even if it produced the best outcomes.

But when Ayers Dohrn's daughter designs a memorial to the three WM killed in the West Village, his accounting takes the side of her classmates who tease her about building a monument to "terrorists" and he leaves out his daughter's justification. Like I definitely have way more respect for Chesa Boudin than I ever did, never knew the depths of hurt he handled and surmounted as a child and then as the adult son of two incarcerated parents. And you can feel Ayers Dorhn's fury in behalf of his kid brother. All of it justified!

Neither Dorhn or Ayers were Marxist and I can't expect their kids to be either. And I allow that kids look at their parents as "great men of history" even when they weren't FBI most wanted. But some self awareness here could have ironically held court where the podcast-friendly rundowns failed.

But as revolutionaries? All due respect I'm not sure the children are qualified to make that call. By all means they can indict their parents as horrible. But to try and ask if their political acts were justified is as silly, in my estimation, as calling (forgive me) the weather "evil" or "moral".

The other parts seem rooted in teenage fury (which is totally justified btw!), i.e. showing his dad footage of J6 as if to equivocate. But the hurt is real and it's tragic! Panther cubs and Weather kids and the Rosenberg boys are all victims, and their parents made terrible decisions as parents.

Just finished reading Zayd Ayers Dohrn’s book, which is 70% judgment of the armed struggles of the 60s/70s and only 30% memoir. A shame, as the most powerful judgments were made in the 30%; it's very much an indictment in its own right to orphan a child in order to wage armed struggle.
