#HaliSky Anyone know of an open database which contains the locations + details of all wind farms in Nova Scotia? This stuff seems like it'd be standard public record I found www.thewindpower.net/zones_en_14_... but some data is hidden behind "premium access"

Maybe a bit late… but for next time. I’ve been making the rub from this rib recipe for decades… I use it on my instant pot pulled pork and it’s excellent. I mix a jar full and use it on any/all pork. www.canadianliving.com/food/lunch-a...

I realize I sound like I work there 😅 I had the opportunity to see how the data works at the Canadian Open Data Summit last year. The ability to show intersectionality of wellbeing wrt geography, race, age etc is a potential game changer (assuming we have leaders who will make decisions with data)

This keeps the data grounded in describing things as they are which ideally could make space for more nuanced discussion about how to tackle issues. I also appreciate that the data is available to anyone to explore www.engagenovascotia.ca/wellbeing-ma...

While I generally find surveys to be a blunt tool I do appreciate that this one is centred on the experiences you have and not opinions about hypotheticals (like electoral reform). Not because those aren’t important questions but because they are politically charged solutions.

AFAIK they aligned many of the questions to other existing indexes which makes it easier to compare or combine with other data sets (like stats can or UN) It does make it long I agree. Not having the services they asked about hopefully shows up in results. That’s how changes might be possible

A mix of hazardous weather types! At 6:30am: icy mix over much of NB through PEI into CB. Rain at times heavy over Mainland NS with thunder over Digby County. The icy weather changes to rain or drizzle by afternoon. Then tonight & Fri am: rain changes to 2-5cm of snow! take care. Two sets of pics.

Second pass with the snowblower… seemed about as much again as the first trip around 5pm. Snow still falling but not as gusty and its finer… feels like it’s starting to switch over. I’ll be curious what your gauge says before bedtime.

I was out with the snowblower around 5 pm and 10-12 cms seems about right… definitely variable depending on drifts. Luckily the snowblower moved it with relative ease. I’m going to follow Jim’s strategy of multiple trips out to keep it from ending up as knee deep slush by morning 💀

Not much change in the story from yesterday. Since the snow in Halifax will be rather wet, shovel strategy to clear first 10cm mid aftn and next 10cm again after supper before change to rain. Not a real hard freeze Tuesday to deal with leftover slush. Two more systems this week. Sigh. Take care!

The @CocoRaHS observations illustrate the variability in snowfalls. Across HRM amounts varied between 10cm in Duncan's Cove to over 30cm at Hammonds Plains. Most of the difference was due to a "fluffier" snow inland. Thanks to our Citizen Scientists for this data!

Winds have eased off today; but pick up out of NW Friday with flurries or onshore snow. Fine Saturday. Still high probability of a snowstorm starting Sunday afternoon in SW NS with heavy snow Sunday night. Snow eases off with blowing snow and strong winds persisting Monday. 25+cm S Maritimes??!!

Onshore snow easing off SW NS but persisting in CB in very cold gusty NW winds today. Snowstorm moves in tonight continuing through Monday. 15-30cm blowing & drifting snow S half Maritimes. Fluffy snow less of an outage risk, but lower visibility. Some snow & blowing snow persisting Tuesday.

One weird result of the 2023 wildfires is we have a lot less outages in Hammonds Plains. They replaced 100s of poles and lots of folks cleared branches and dead wood from property. Hopefully didn’t just jinx it! 😅

Merry Christmas! Sharing some maps to plan any holiday travel. Roads most likely to become snow covered in western half of Maritimes today. Then a mostly fine stretch; although, the CB highlands seem likely to have some snow (not heavy) everyday :-). A warm up then cool down Monday-Tuesday.
