Via @provisionalidea.bsky.social on the other place, I am posting this to cheer up @sturdyalex.bsky.social (see final sentence). Promise I’ll be contributing £ to the gold standard @quietriotpod.bsky.social as soon as my expected sterling income kicks in. Gift link to the FT article in the reply.

You + a group of FT folks have made a valiant effort to make it work. Still I find here to be a Brit-focused: ok but no good for work. Meanwhile here are ~130 articles I collected on X for my monthly Cyprus report. Despite my lobbying only 1 media outlet (Cyprus Mail) is here + I can’t even tag it!

Am visiting and got it too. If you absolutely have to drag yourself out of bed I found Benylin Day & Night worked way better than eg Panadol Cold and Flu.

IMHO something difficult for big-country BSKYers to grasp is that, back on the evil tech-bro sites (yes they are evil), there are wee communities in wee countries being perfectly nice to each other 95% of the time + that is where they all flock when someone well loved dies. So long, Costa 🖤🖤🖤

If you want to switch off people gratuitously posting death and mayhem on your timeline go to settings ->contents and media-> and toggle off “Autoplay videos and GIFs”.

I often think how the weather in #Cyprus matches the temperament. No such thing as a luke-warm English drizzle. It is either drought or full-on flood. en.politis.com.cy/social-lens/...

Meanwhile over in wee Cyprus the pro-reunification candidate in northern Cyprus won in the first round by a massive landslide: 62.76%.

“Buy my Brexit benefits book.” Also “fuck off if you disagree”. Result: no one but the already convinced will read it. All that effort for one big zero result.

People sneer at those who are still on Xitter. I think they must be UK/US-focused so dare I say it a bit parochial. Can I find this kind of really-important -for-my-job info here? Nope. I do follow @gonultol.bsky.social here but it just doesn’t turn up on my feed.

It depends a lot on whether they are allowed to work. I think asylum seekers aren’t allowed(?) so they have no legal way of contributing. For longer term immigrants, whether they are net contributors depends on lots of variables. See this report migrationobservatory.ox.ac.uk/resources/br...

From hot Cyprus, FWIW if you have remote-controlled ceiling fans, everything (working, sleeping, faffing) up to about 34 C is doable. After that you can still use fans only in mornings, as I do, but you will need AC in the afternoons and at night (and for 🏃🏽‍♀️ and 🎻 practice). #AirCon

Let’s be honest, unless you live in a high-population country both Xitter (where I’ve 5.5k followers) AND BlueSky are finished. One of my best-performing Substack articles: Twitter = 2, Insta I never use = 3, BlueSky: one big zero. The ones you won’t recognise are Russian- + Turkish-speaking sites.

Has anyone worked how to read a thread on BlueSky without it dying half way in someone else’s reply? Or becoming unreadable as it gets skinnier? Or both? I mean FFS what is this.

Rookie Q for #DataViz types. What software would you recommend to a 58 year-old with no coding experience, who wants to turn stats like the csv on the left into a table presentation like on the right. I do ~25 tables/charts a month like this. Excel is repetitive + Pivot messes up row sequences 😡
The image is a screenshot of a .csv file (similar to Microsoft Excel) from the Cyprus statistical service showing rows and columns of statistics on retail sales presented in “raw” format. The image is a screenshot of the same retail sales statistics from the Cyprus Statistical Service Cystat, now arranged into % changes and presented in a more visually pleasing way than in the csv file.

Lessons from my latest Substack article: your best advertisers are your subscribers (I have around 230 free subscribers and included a “share” button). Next is Substack users. Two platforms didn’t feature at all: BlueSky and the KluX place.

I think @considermycat.bsky.social has nailed it (plus maybe, if it is a US website, that belief in some quarters that Catholics are not Christians.)
The photo shows the title page of “The Holy Bible, Revised Standard Version, containing the Old and New Testaments, Catholic Edition”This photo is the reverse title page of the first photo and shows that this edition of the Bible also includes the “Apocrypha, Copyright 1957”

Other non-Russian suppliers, including tariff-threatening US, have way more than 30 tcf. So yes 30 tcf would be a regional game-changer but hold yer horses till the well is actually dug and results are out later this year. 5/5
A screenshot of the Energy Institute’s Statistical Review of World Energy Excel file showing that the US has natural gas reserves of 445.6 trillion cubic feet (tcf) and Qatar has 871.1 tcf.
