I've had a new paper published on shipping collisions with North Atlantic #rightwhale, based on analysis of strikes on several whale species. In @esr-ir.bsky.social www.int-res.com/articles/esr... The work was supported by @peer.org TL;DR - huge vessels matter. A lot. 🐳🌍🦑🧪

I have nothing but love for my friends and colleagues in science that are pursuing jobs overseas, but I hate hate hate the pervasive idea that academics and scientists aren't part of our communities and can just be shuffled around from institute to institute.

This one hurts. I wouldn’t have a PhD, or have had some of the best experiences in my life, or made some of my best friends #WithoutNSF & without the PGC. I was employee #1 of an organization that grew into an indispensable part of Polar Programs. And it’s being dismantled for literally no reason 🧪🌎
