Plastic recycling was never a real idea. It was a lie, a strategy to avoid regulation, which is a different thing entirely, and Richard Wiles has Big Oil's own memos saying so. Same PR BS as the climate lying. And this one ends up inside all of us.

So....there's a lot of tea spilled about a lot of media outlets' willingness to be tools of corporate propaganda in my book. In hindsight, I probably should NOT have been surprised that many of those same outlets declined to run op-eds pegged to the book. But I kinda was! What thin-skinned babies!

Forty years ago, Ben & Jerry's became the test case for something a lot of people in our generation actually believed: that a company could have a conscience and still make money. We are now watching that get dismantled by the company's own owner. I talked to @yobencohen.bsky.social about it.

For decades, the way onto a ballot was to work your way up — a staff job, a local office, then a run of your own. @faiz.bsky.social says voters have stopped rewarding that. What they want is someone who knows what their struggles are really like.

Students on the left are not short of conviction. They are short of backing — money, an audience, somebody willing to publish what they find out. That is what the right built on campuses over ten years. Nobody on this side did.

Trillions of dollars are going into data centers. @faiz.bsky.social's test for whether a project is worth it is simple: do working-class people in that county see any of that money?

@faiz.bsky.social ran Bernie Sanders' 2020 campaign, and he named three decisions he would make differently. Not vague regrets — three specific calls, each with a date attached.

Ask any candidate who got past a super PAC this cycle how they did it and you hear the same answer: four, five, six hundred events in person. Social media got them noticed. The events turned that attention into votes.

How much is a million dollars in seconds? 12 days. How much is a billion? 32 years! America used to tax the wealthy far more than today, which is a big part of why there are so many more billionaires.

Many political pros who spent a decade calling Bernie Sanders’ positions “unelectable” are changing their minds. Former MSNBC anchor Joy Reid said as much on this show. Losing is not the same as being wrong, and Bernie’s campaign manager @faiz.bsky.socialhas had six years to sit with the difference.

Change never starts at the top. It starts at the grassroots, and right now they're on the move. Billionaires being taxed on the California ballot this November, towns revolting against data centers, with opposition from both parties. Tech bros booed at commencement speeches.

Forget the exposés. Read their own business advice. Billionaire Peter Thiel’s book on how to build a startup says to build it like a cult. His crew has been called the PayPal Mafia for almost twenty years, and he is cheerfully known as its Godfather. Cult or mafia, he wrote — pick one.

You can have a free press, or you can have billionaire media ownership. But you can’t have both.  There was a time when the big newspapers afflicted the powerful. That was the actual power of the press.

"Nerd Reich" sounds like an insult. But ask these billionaire men who should be running things and the answer comes back: the richest, the whitest, the male tech elite. They want to replace democracy with themselves in power. That isn't an inference — it's their argument, published and defended.

can someone explain to me why the media is trying to hold every Democrat accountable for something a streamer says but nobody cares about Elon Musk being in the Epstein files and posting racist shit like this nonstop as he funds every Republican politician
Derek Chauvin was unjustly convicted of murder, therefore he should be
The facts show that he was not the cause of death, nor did he at any time intend for a death to occur. Whatever else he may be, he is not a murderer.
That is the truth.

Got 'em: The @thebulwark.com added an editor's note to the review, acknowledging that the author's direct affiliation with the Foundation for American Innovation ("the foundation shaping the tech right," according to Inc.) created a conflict that should have been forthrightly disclosed.
Editor's note from Bulwark: 1
Editor’s note (September 3, 2026, 1:10 p.m. EDT): In a response to this review posted to social media, Gil Durán, author of The Nerd Reich, has highlighted that the reviewer, Jacob Bruggeman, is affiliated with the Foundation for American Innovation (FAI). Durán mentions FAI in his book, once, in a sentence that reads as follows: “This merging of tech and far-right networks—hosted by the Foundation for American Innovation, which Inc. later described as ‘the foundation shaping the tech right’—seemed like a live test of [Balaji] Srinivasan’s theory.” Bruggeman’s affiliation with FAI is an unpaid, nonresident fellowship (in other words, it is not his day job), and while it was mentioned in his byline beneath this review, we should have made a point of additionally disclosing it in a footnote like this.
