Lighting up your screen: a larval zebrafish's cellular activity. Developed by researchers at our Janelia Research Campus, WHaloCaMP is a biosensor that detects calcium signals — a key part of cellular communication — & offers a window into how cells & organs work together. 🎥 Helen Farrants, HHMI JRC

Hey everyone!
Do you remember this post from your fav blogger? labrigger.com/blog/2025/11...
Not super easy to use - I know. Well, spring break has sprung here at ucsb and we decided to bring that activation energy down a notch.
I guess welcome to my first bsky thread? letsgo (1/5)

Just a piece of cortex I saw under the microscope today 🤓🔬 Cell types: neurons 🔵, astrocytes 🟡, microglia 🟣. Observe how astrocytes are covering two long blood vessels, crossing all the gray matter and almost reaching white matter. The brain is so pretty!
Microscopy photo showing some cell types in the brain, including neurons in blue, astrocytes in gold and microglia in purple. Piece of the frontal cortex (Brodmann area 46), rhesus macaque.

This place sort of feels like the science Twitter I used to like. Maybe even better? Fingers crossed. Wish I had a fresh preprint to share, but here's the next best thing: a fresh osprey with some blue sky background.
