The Council has posted a page with its plans for the #Greenway diversion via Plaistow Road, along with a timetable: starting the southern section early next year, finishing by Autumn. We support this scheme & want it to be accelerated wherever possible. newhamco-create.co.uk/en/projects/...
Diagram showing a redesign of Plaistow Road in Newham, with a 2-way cycleway on the north side. The footways and cycleways are continuous with Dutch entry kerbs over the junctions of Church Street, Stephens Road, and Plaistow Grove. A new straight-across parallel zebra and cycle crossing just east of Stephens Road makes it possible to cross Plaistow Road. The junction mouth of Church Street is narrowed significantly. A traffic island in the centre of the road is removed. On the north side, the cycleway runs behind a bus stop, with the boarding island reachable by a zebra crossing.

Fingers crossed. In the meantime I have recently worked out a fairly simple, mostly quiet route, although I'm usually headed for the New City Rd area, I thought I'd share as it may be useful to someone.

The iron dome also deflects reality, weirdly focused on Labour, despite international agreement.

Israel Foreign Ministry

The UK labour government cannot wage a campaign against Israel and then expect to be treated as a credible actor in the region. Every hostile measure has a consequence. Keep targeting Israel. Keep losing influence. Labour is making the UK irrelevant.

That’s because helmets are not rated for car crashes, only for falling off a bike, so telling people a helmet will protect them when a 7000 lb auto smashes their body is just a lie. Traffic calming, smaller cars, fix blind spots, infrastructure, consequences for drivers who run over humans.

I see you sharing this graphic on Facebook, it is misleading. It shows the Greenway in Newham which was closed earlier in 2026 for three years. As you can see there are no other north-south routes in the borough.
Two low detail cycle maps of Greater London labelled 'before 2016' and 'after 2026', nice loophole because it shows the Newham Greenway in the second one which was closed earlier in 2026 for three years.

North-south protected cycleways in Newham would be a game changer and would make up for the lack of effort over the three year Newham Greenway closure.

By February this year, @london.gov.uk's TfL had spent £66.5m replacing the #GallowsCorner flyover and re-aligning the traffic lanes below. This should have been a once in a generation opportunity to future-proof the junction for walking, wheeling and cycling. Instead, it's a failure.
A black bicycle with red pannier bags is sideways across a path with a very wide road to the right.

The back wheel is against guardrail to the right and the front overhanging the grass of a verge to the left. The path is marked with a sign on a lamp column as shared use.

There is a large green directional sign straddling that path with posts within handlebar striking range.

The sign is for Gallows
Corner.

Westminster Council Conservatives, of 'vertical drinking' fame, earlier this year proudly cancelled a cycle lane on Hamilton Terrace. Where on a Thursday afternoon last June a 13 year old boy was hit and seriously injured by the driver of a car. They have received no negative press for doing so.
Screenshot of a newsletter from Paul Swaddle Leader of the Conservative Group and Westminster Council which read:

We are wasting no time. One of our first acts has been to halt any more work on the C51 Cycleway scheme on Hamilton Terrace in St John's Wood. Over 1,000 residents backed the local campaign against it, raising serious concerns about safety, the loss of parking and electric charging points, and the enormous cost of ripping up the road. We listened then. We are acting now. This is what Real Action looks like from day one. We will always listen. Tell me what matters most to you below:
Screenshot of TfL road danger reduction dashboard summary of collision which reads:

On 12/06/2025 there was a moderately serious collision at 15:15 at On Hamilton Terrace, Near The Junction With Abercorn Place.. The collision took place on an unclassified road. The collision involved a pedal cycle and a car, resulting in 1 moderately seriously injured cyclist.

Our neighbours in Waltham Forest just keep pushing further and further to make cycling better—here, a crowded shared footway that was over capacity is being replaced by a separated cycleway. More convenient for cycling, and much safer & less stressful for pedestrians going to Whipps Cross Hospital!
